University of Minnesota-Duluth junior left wing Tom Nelson, who's offensive exploits produced a three-goal, two assist weekend for the Bulldogs at the Sheraton/ Howard Bank Classic in Burlington, Vt., last weekend, has been honored as the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for Nov. 27.
From Superior, Wisc., the 6-0, 190-pound Nelson was an offen-sive catalyst as UMD finished as the runner-up in the four-team Thanksgiving tournament.
He turned in a two-goal, two-assist effort on Sunday (Nov. 26) evening in a 7-3 victory over host and nationally-ranked Vermont, extending his career-high point-scoring streak to six games and earning himself a spot on the all-tournament team. In addition, Nelson also scored a third period goal last Saturday (Nov. 25) af-ternoon that brought the Bull-dogs to within one of fifth-ranked New Hampshire in a 4-3 setback.
Through Nov. 26, Nelson leads UMD in scoring with six goals, seven assists and 13 points (1.18 ppg) in 11 games and he has at least one point in eight of his last nine outings.
The Bulldogs open the longest homestand in team history - 12 games - this coming weekend when they host WCHA rival Wis-consin at the DECC.

Jesse Cook, a junior defenseman at the University of Denver, has been selected as the WCHA De-fensive Player of the Week for Nov. 27 as a result of his out-standing efforts in a win and tie against visiting Boston Univer-sity and Providence College over the Thanksgiving weekend.
A 6-5, 215-pounder from Englewood, Colo., Cook was a key factor at both ends of the ice last weekend, recording a +4 plus/ minus rating, blocking four shots, and also assisting on three goals as the Pioneers extended their unbeaten streak to three games (2-0-1).
He had an assist and two blocked shots in a 5-2 victory over BU last Friday (Nov. 24) evening at Magness Arena and then came back on Saturday (Nov. 25) to block two more shots and set up two more goals, including a third period game-tying tally by Greg Barber at 14:56, as the Pioneers rallied for a 3-3 tie with Providence.
Through the first 12 games of the 2000-01 season, Cook leads DU with a +5 plus/minus rating and is tied for the team lead with seven assists. A draftee of the NHL's Calgary Flames, he has a three-game point streak going during which he has five assists and a +7 on-ice rating.
Denver next plays host to league-leading Minnesota on Dec. 1-2 in the Mile High City.

Minnesota State University, Mankato right winger Tim Jackman, who produced three scoring points for the Mavericks in the four-team Sheraton/ Howard Bank Classic tournament in Burlington, Vt., last weekend, has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week for Nov. 27.
A 6-2, 190-pound rookie from Brooklyn Park, Minn., Jackman notched his first collegiate game-winning goal last Saturday (Nov. 25) evening with a third period tally at 13:52 and also drew one assist to propel the Mavericks to a 7-5 win over the University of Vermont.
On Sunday (Nov. 26), in a loss to New Hampshire, Jackman drew another assist on a third period power-play goal by teammate Jesse Rooney to extend his point-scoring streak to three games.
Through games of Nov. 26, Jackman is currently tied for sec-ond in scoring overall among first-year players in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association with six goals, five assists and 11 points and has played in all 14 games for the Mavericks so far this season.
Idle this coming weekend (Dec. 1-2), Minnesota State, Mankato next sees action on Dec. 8-9 when the Mavericks host Ala-bama- Huntsville in non-confer-ence action.
