MADISON, Wisc. - Tickets for the 2002 WCHA Final Five - one of college hockey's premier post-season championships - are now on sale following a delay in the original public sale date.
"We (the WCHA) apologize to our fans for any inconvienence the delay caused," said WCHA Assistant Commissioner of Operations and Tournament Director Carol LaBelle.
"There was a new ticketing system installed which delayed the original sale date of Nov. 15 to Nov. 23, and then there was a delay in getting the message passed through all of the proper channels. But those kinks have been ironed out and now we look forward to the process of making the 2002 WCHA Final Five the most successful league playoff championship ever. We truly appreciate the patience and continued support from our loyal fans."
The 2002 WCHA Final Five will be held March 14, 15 and 16 at the 18,064-seat Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., the permanent home of the NHL's Minnesota Wild. Five-game championship ticket packages are priced at $50.00 for upper level seats and $95.00 for lower level seats and may be ordered now by calling Ticketmaster at 651-989-5151 or visiting www.ticketmaster.com
"After our record-setting Final Five last March and a successful and continuing partnership with the Minnesota Wild and the Xcel Energy Center, we couldn't be more excited about having the championship back in St. Paul again for 2002 (and 2003)," added WCHA Commissioner Bruce M. McLeod.
"This has become one of the premier tournaments in all of college athletics and we look forward to what should truly be a memorable event for all of our fans."
Last year's WCHA Final Five at the Xcel Energy Center drew a record total of 67,611 fans and featured five teams that were all ranked among the top 15 in the nation in Colorado College, Minnesota, North Dakota, St. Cloud State and Wisconsin. And here in 2001-02, the WCHA currently has the nation's No. 1 (Minnesota), No. 2 (St. Cloud State) No. 4 (Denver), No. 9 (North Dakota) and No. 11 (Colorado College) ranked Div. I men's teams.
