Wakefield, Mass. -- Sacred Heart University forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien, who produced a sensational 10-13-23 scoring chart in nine games while leading the Pioneers to a 7-1-1 record, is the CSTV: College Sports Television/Hockey Commissioners' Association National Division I Player of the Month for November.
The 24-year old senior from Nicolet, Quebec, who recorded just two points in six October games, exploded for a five-point game, with two goals and three assists, to start the month with a 6-4 win over Mercyhurst on Nov. 3. He then reeled off a string of five consecutive three-point games beginning with a hat trick in an overtime win against the Lakers. All three goals came in the last 4:30 of the third period with two in the final :90 seconds, including a game-tying marker with just 13 seconds to go in regulation time. The 5-foot-10, 180- pound forward registered nine goals and 22 points during a seven-game undefeated streak (6-0-1) halted on Nov. 25 by a Connecticut squad that was the only team to keep him off the scoresheet during the month.
O'Brien, who posted a +10 rating for the month, was involved in 23 of the 37 goals (62.2 percent) scored in November by the Pioneers, who are 9-4-2 overall and hold down first place in Atlantic Hockey with a 7-2-2 mark. He is the league's first player to be named the CSTV/HCA Player of the Month since March 2005 when former AHA member, Quinnipiac, swept both awards.
Ryan Lasch, a freshman winger at St. Cloud State University, has been selected as the HCA National Rookie of the Month for November. A 5-foot-9, 175-pound right shot from Lake Forest, Calif., Lasch averaged better than a point-per game during the month with five goals and seven assists in eight games, helping St. Cloud State to a 4-1-3 record in November, including a current seven-game unbeaten streak (4-0-3). He also earned a +5 plus-minus rating during the month.
Lasch had three multi-point games in November, including four points in a pair of overtime ties against top-ranked Minnesota on Nov. 10-11 and had two goals and an assist against league-rival Minnesota Duluth. Lasch also had points against nationally-ranked North Dakota and Clarkson.
Lasch, whe played for the Pembroke (Ont.,) Lumber Kings last season, stands second in the nation among rookie point producers at 1.33 points-per game and is second in scoring among first-year players in the WCHA. He is tied for second in points among his St. Cloud State teammates with seven goals and 16 points in 12 games. St. Cloud State started the month of November at 2-2-0 and enters December ranked 10th in the nation with a 6-3-3 record that includes wins over North Dakota, Clarkson, and UMD along with ties against Minnesota and North Dakota.
