MADISON, Wisc. - Goaltender Dean Weasler made 36 saves and Matt Hendricks scored twice to lead No. 1-ranked St. Cloud State to a 3-0 victory over host Colorado College Friday night (Dec. 7) before 6,419 at the Colorado Springs World Arena. The win upped the Huskies' overall mark to 13-1-1 and stretched their lead in the 2001-02 WCHA race to seven points.

In other WCHA action on Dec. 7, No. 2-ranked Minnesota (12-1-3) handed No. 2/3 Denver (11-2- 0) it's first loss in league play with a 2-1 decision over the Pioneers in front of 6,013 at Magness Arena, host Wisconsin used a stirring comeback to down defending MacNaughton Cup-champion North Dakota 7-6 in overtime before 11,255 at the Kohl Center, and Alaska Anchorage upped it's WCHA unbeaten streak to three games (2-0-1) with a 2-1 road win at Minnesota State-Mankato. In non- conference play, host Minnesota-Duluth skated to a 5-1 triumph over Bemidji State. Heading into Saturday (Dec. 8) night's schedule, first place St. Cloud State (13 gp, 23 points) leads second place Denver (9 gp, 16 points) by seven points, followed by Minnesota (9 gp, 14 points) in third and Wisconsin (9 gp, 11 points) in fourth. Three teams - Colorado College, MSU-Mankato and North Dakota - are tied for fifth in the WCHA race with nine points in 11 games played through Dec. 7 while Alaska Anchorage is one point back of those three clubs with eight points in 11 games. Celebrating its 50th anniversary season, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association currently (Dec. 3 polls) has the nation's top three ranked Div. I men's teams in St. Cloud State, Minnesota and Denver, while Colorado College was 10th/12th. In addition, WCHA-member teams are a combined 29-12-2 against non-conference competition this season.
