Pioneers and Badgers Extend Streaks CC, DU, UW Post League Wins on Friday

MADISON, Wisc. - Colorado College used goals from six different players Friday (Dec. 8) night in Colorado Springs, including the eventual game-winner from F Justin Morrison at 18:07 of the second period, to record a 6-4 triumph over visiting North Dakota and hand the Fighting Sioux their first loss in 12 games. The win also enabled CC to move into a second place tie in the WCHA race with Wisconsin and idle Minnesota.

Elsewhere in conference play last night, Denver extended its unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1) with a 5-1 victory at Alaska Anchorage while the defending MacNaughton Cup-champion Badgers won for the third straight time with a 3-1 decision at St. Cloud State. The Pioneers, who have moved into fifth place, had two goals and an assist from F Kelly Popadynetz to down the Seawolves while Wisconsin capitalized on a pair of markers from W Dany Heatley and 1-2=3 from C Matt Murray.

In non-conference play Friday evening, host Minnesota-Duluth had two goals from both Drew Otten and Mark Carlson to claim a 7-2 victory over Bemidji State, Minnesota State, Mankato F Jesse Rooney tallied twice to help the Mavericks to a 4-2 win over visiting Alabama-Huntsville, and host Michigan Tech dropped a 4-1 verdict to Northern Michigan, despite outshooting the Wildcats, 56-21.

Tonight (Dec. 9) in the WCHA, Colorado College again hosts North Dakota, Wisconsin plays at St. Cloud State and Denver concludes its series at Alaska Anchorage. Non-conference matchups find Michigan Tech traveling to Northern Michigan, Minnesota hosting Quinnipac, UMD entertaining Bemidji State, and MSU Mankato hosting Alabama-Huntsville.

On Sunday (Dec. 10) evening, the visiting Russian Select Team will play the first of it's five-game WCHA/ USA Tour against Minnesota at Mariucci Arena at 7:05 pm CT.
