MADISON, Wisc. - Only two conference series will be contested between now (Dec. 11) and New Year's and both of those will occur this coming weekend of Dec. 15-17 when Denver travels to Minnesota- Duluth and St. Cloud State hosts Alaska Anchorage. The Pioneers are one of the hottest teams in college hockey right now, riding a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) that has moved them into fifth place in the WCHA. St. Cloud State, meanwhile, is 5-1-0 over their last six games.
In addition to those two league series, one non-conference set is on this week's schedule as Minnesota State, Mankato entertains College Hockey America-member Bemidji State next Saturday and Sunday. The only other game being played by a league team comes on Tuesday (Dec. 12) when Wisconsin engages the touring Russia Select Team in an international exhibition.
North Dakota currently leads the race for the MacNaughton Cup by five points over Colorado College, Minnesota and Wisconsin. CC snapped UND's 11-game unbeaten streak last Friday (Dec. 8).
RUSSIAN SELECT TEAM TOUR CONTINUES
The Russia Select Team's WCHA/USA Tour continues this week with games at Wisconsin on Tuesday
(Dec. 12), and against the U.S. National Development Team in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Wednesday (Dec.
13). The Russia Select Team's five-game tour got underway in Minneapolis on Sunday night in a 5-4 loss
at the University of Minnesota and concludes early next week with games at St. Cloud State on Monday, Dec. 18 and at Minnesota State, Mankato on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
