MADISON, Wisc. - The Western Collegiate Hockey Association continues its strong season-long presence in the Division 1 national college hockey rankings for the week of Dec. 11-17 with five member teams listed among the top 15 and one other continuing to make headway. Leading the way is defending NCAA champion and league-leading North Dakota (13-3-4), ranked third in both the Dec. 11th USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Men's College Poll and the USCHO.com Div. 1 Men's Poll. The Sioux, who lead the WCHA race by five points, are 11-1-1 over their last 13 games.
The four other league teams ranked among the top 15 teams in the nation this week are Colorado College (11-4-1), seventh in both polls, St. Cloud State (11-4-1), eighth and ninth in the two polls, Minnesota (10-5-2), also eighth and ninth in the two polls, and Wisconsin (11-9-0), 12th in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine poll and 13th in the USCHO.com list. The University of Denver (8- 7-1), meanwhile, continues to generate momentum in the voting on the strength of a seven-game unbeaten streak. DU received votes in both weekly polls on Dec. 11th.
The WCHA is home to 31 national championship teams since the league's founding in 1951, including
the 2000 NCAA Frozen Four crown claimed by North Dakota last April in Providence.
