MADISON, Wisc. - Only two games were on the WCHA schedule Friday (Dec. 15) night, but those two contests proved big for the winning clubs. The University of Denver extended its unbeaten streak to eight games (7-0-1) with a 1-1 overtime draw at Minnesota-Duluth while host St. Cloud State improved to 12-4-1 overall with a 3-1 over Alaska Anchorage. The points acquired by the Pioneers and the Huskies enabled them to continue their climb up the league ladder, as DU moved to within one point of second place and SCSU moved to within just two.

Heading into Saturday competition, defending NCAA champion North Dakota's 21 points leads the conference race by five, followed by Colorado College, Minnesota and Wisconsin all tied for second with 16 points. Only two points separate second through sixth place, and fifth place Denver could vault into sole possession of second with a win tonight while St. Cloud State could leap from sixth into a tie with CC, UM and UW.

Last night in St. Cloud, Mark Hartigan, Jon Cullen and Tyler Arnson all tallied for the Huskies in their 3-1 win over the visiting Seawolves while Scott Meyer made 23 saves between the pipes. At Duluth, Denver's Lukas Dora and UMD's Tom Nelson traded goals and Wade Dubielewicz (DU, 29 saves) and Rob Anderson (UMD, 34 saves) both had strong nights in a 1-1 tie as the Pioneers remained unbeaten in their last eight and the host Bulldogs improved to 4-1-2 in their last seven home dates vs DU.

Also of note, the Russia Select Team will conclude its WCHA/USA Tour with games on Monday (Dec. 18) evening at St. Cloud State and on Tuesday (Dec. 19) night at Minnesota State, Mankato.
