WCHA Offensive Player of the Week

Jesse Rooney, a senior forward
at Minnesota State University,
Mankato, has been honored as
the WCHA Offensive Player of
the Week for December 18th as
a result of his outstanding ef-forts
in a two-game home sweep
over Bemidji State last week-end.
A 5-11, 190-pounder from
White Bear Lake, Minn., Rooney
recorded his second career hat
trick and assisted on another
goal in 6-2 nonconference win
over Bemidji State last Saturday
(Dec. 16) night at the Midwest
Wireless Civic Center in Mankato.
His four points in that game is
also a career high.
A member of the WCHA All-Star
Team for Norway Tour 2000
last August, Rooney has tallied
nine goals and three assists in
last seven games and also has
scored at least one goal in six of
the last seven games. He moved
to the top of MSU's scoring charts
with 13-6=19 and is MSU's ac-tive
career leading scorer with
58-34=92 in 128 games. His 58
career goals rank 15th on MSU's
all-time list.
The Mavericks, now 10-8-0
overall on the 2000-01 season,
host the Russia Select Team on
Tuesday (Dec. 19) night before
breaking for the holidays.
Other nominees for the weekly

WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
Rob Anderson, G
Minnesota-Duluth
University of Minnesota-Duluth
goaltender Rob Anderson, has
been selected as the WCHA De-fensive
Player of the Week for
Dec. 18 after a strong perfor-mance
in a two-game weekend
conference series against visit-ing
Denver.
A 6-0, 170-pound sophomore
from Superior, Wisc., Anderson
blanked the red-hot Pioneers in
six of the seven periods (includ-ing
one overtime) he played in
the two-game series, stopped 58
of 61 shots on goal for a .951
saves percentage, and helped hold
DU scoreless in six power-play
chances on the weekend.
Last Friday (Dec. 15) night in a
1-1 overtime tie in Duluth, Ander-son
allowed only a first period
tally at 1:36 while making 34
saves - including 17 in the first
period. On Saturday (Dec. 16)
evening, he came back to stop 24
of 26 shots on goal, including all
15 in the second period, as the
Bulldogs yielded two third period
goals in a 2-1 setback.
On the weekend, Anderson held
Denver scoreless over a span of
104:56 between the first period
last Friday and the third period
on Saturday.
Also nominated for the weekly
defensive award were: Wade

Christopherson, D, MSU.
WCHA Rookie of the Week
Tim Jackman, F
MSU, Mankato
Minnesota State University,
Mankato freshman forward Tim
Jackman, who led all first-year
players in scoring over the Dec.
15-17 weekend with four points
in a two-game sweep over visit-ing
Bemidji State, has been named
the WCHA Rookie of the Week for
December 18.
A 6-2, 190-pounder from
Brooklyn Park, Minn., Jackman
totalled two goals and two as-sists
as the Mavericks posted two-game sweep over
nonconference foe Bemidji State
over the weekend.
Jackman had a goal and an
assist in MSU's 6-2 win last Sat-urday
and then assisted on the
game-tieing goal before getting
the game-winner in the Maver-icks'
2-1 win over BSU on Sun-day.
Both goals on the weekend
came via the power-play to give
him a team-high five power-play
markers for the season
Jackman now has ten points
(four goals and six assists) in
last seven games.
