MADISON, Wisc. - Four more holiday tournaments mark their first day of competition on Friday (Dec. 28) while a fifth - the Bank One Badger Hockey Showdown in Milwaukee - concludes with a third place game between WCHA members Wisconsin and Colorado College and a championship contest between New Hampshire and Brown.

On Friday and Saturday (Dec. 29), Michigan Tech hosts North Dakota, Michigan and Michigan State in the Great Lakes Invitational at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Minnesota entertains Western Michigan, Ferris State and Providence in the Mariucci Classic at UM's Mariucci Arena, Denver welcomes Bowling Green, UMass-Lowell and Harvard to the Wells Fargo Denver Cup at the Pioneers' Magness Arena, and Minnesota- Duluth hosts Boston College, Miami and Yale in the Silverado Shootout. Celebrating its 50th anniversary season in 2001-02 and home to a record 31 national championship teams since 1951, the WCHA currently has the nation's top three ranked Div. I teams in No. 1 St. Cloud State, No. 2 Minnesota and No. 3 Denver, while Colorado College is ranked 10th. Through Dec. 27, WCHA teams own a combined 35-15-2 non-conference mark. And one year ago, the WCHA became the first conference in Div. I hockey history to qualify five teams for the NCAA tournament.
