University of North Dakota for ward Tim Skarperud Tim Skarperud Tim Skarperud Tim Skarperud Tim Skarperud, who had five scoring points and was named Most Valuable Player as the Fight ing Sioux swept to the team cham- pionship in the annual Great Lakes Invitational in Detroit last weekend, is the WCHA Offen- sive Player of the Week for Dec. 31-Jan. 6.

A 6-0, 185-pound junior from Grand Forks, N.D., Skarperud had a goal and four assists in the two-day tournament held before 36,890 at Joe Louis Arena and earned a +3 plus/minus rating as North Dakota posted back-to- back 5-4 overtime victories over 9th-ranked Michigan and 4th- ranked Michigan State to claim the 2001 GLI crown.

In the win over Michigan last Friday (Dec. 28), Skarperud had two assists - including one on the game-winning goal by teammate David Hale. In the GLI champi- onship game against Michigan State last Saturday (Dec. 29), Skarperud led the way with a goal and two assists for his first collegiate three-point night and was honored as the tournament's MVP.

Skarperud, who has two or more points in his last three games, is third on the UND team in scoring with 6-9=15. North Dakota (9-9-1 overall) next travels to Univ. of Minnesota for a Jan. 5-6 WCHA series.
