Minneapolis, Minn. - Top-seed Minnesota earned the right to defend its WCHA Playoff Championship title with a 7-1 win over No. 4 Ohio State.

The Golden Gophers jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead on goals from Lyndsay Wall, Natalie Darwitz and Ashley Albrecht. Liz Palkie extended lead with her goal at 4:44 of the second period. Ohio State's Jeni Creary scored on the power play at 9:33 of the second to put the Buckeyes on the scoreboard. Minnesota dominated the rest of the scoring with three more goals to close out the second. Darwitz recorded a hattrick while Erica McKenzie added an insurance goal on the power play.

Jody Horak made 22 saves in net for Minnesota while Erika Vanderveer had 21 saves for the Buckeyes.

Minnesota will meet Wisconsin in the 2005 WCHA Women's Playoff Championship game at 4 p.m.
