Mankato, Minn. - For the third consecutive year the Minnesota State women's hockey team will teach a floor hockey unit at six different Mankato-area elementary schools during the semester break.

"We have seven groups of players working with the local schools this year," said MSU assistant coach Dan Lichterman. "We've been very pleased with how this program has gone. It's an opportunity to have our student-athletes interact with the local kids and the response we've received, from both the youngsters and the teachers, has been tremendous,"

Schools participating this year include Franklin Elementary (2 groups), Garfield Elementary, Washington Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Kennedy Elementary and Eagle Lake Elementary. The Mavericks will teach four class sessions each day from the start of school until lunch time this Monday through Friday (Jan. 8-12). Mankato native Jenny Gorny, a freshman goaltender with MSU is back at her old elementary school - Roosevelt, and physical education majors Shera Vis (senior , forward, Thunder Bay, Ont.) and Andreanne Thibault (junior, defense, L'Original, Ont.) developed the lesson plans for each group to use.
