BEMIDJI, Minn. - For the second time during the 2002-03 season, a member of the Bemidji State University women's hockey team has been selected as a Western Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Week. The WCHA announced today that BSU senior wing Lill Raynard has been named as the Offensive Player of the Week for her four-point performance against Minnesota State-Mankato Jan. 10th and 11th.
Raynard, a Clifford, Ontario native, scored both goals and took five shots in the Beavers 2-2 tie in the series opener versus the Mavericks. Her first goal snapped the Beaver's three-game scoreless streak and a seven-game power-play drought where Bemidji State had not scored in 32 power-play opportunities. At 10:28 in the second period, she scored her second goal. It was the first short-handed goal for BSU this season and the first since Feb. 23, 2001.
In the second night's 3-3 tie, the senior made assists on two goals, including the game-tying tally. Her first assist set up teammate Amber Fryklund's 100th career point.
Raynard is second on team with five goals and seven assists for 12 points. She is currently ranked 25th in WCHA scoring, 14th in goals scored, and is one of only 11 WCHA women to score a short-handed goal this season.
The Beavers will continue in their current homestand this Saturday (Jan. 18)
when they play host to the University of North Dakota (7-10-03) in
non-conference play. The puck is set to drop at 7:05 p.m. at the John Glas
Fieldhouse.
