MADISON, Wis. - Bemidji State made a move last week with a home seep of St. Cloud State to move from fifth to third in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings.
The Beavers used 3-1 and 6-1 victories to earn four points and vault from 11 points and fifth place, to third place and 15 points.
Minnesota-Duluth also earned a League sweep when it defeated Minnesota State, 6-1 and 8-1, in Mankato, Minn. The Bulldogs, up two point on idle Minnesota for the League crown heading into the weekend, increased their lead to six points with the wins.
The Gophers, with two games at-hand on UMD, look to keep pace this weekend when they travel to Bemidji State. UMD will also be in action when it plays host to Ohio State. The Bulldogs will be missing three of their top players who will return to their home countries for exhibition games.
Wisconsin will visit Minnesota State with hopes of regaining third place. The Badgers currently sit one point behind Bemidji State for the third spot. The Mavericks remain in striking distance for the fifth and final 2003 WCHA Women's Final Five spot, but must begin to reel in the teams ahead of them.
In other non-Conference action, St. Cloud State plays host to North Dakota, at team the Huskies swept on the road earlier this season.
