COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Dartmouth College dethroned the University of Minnesota from the No. 1 spot, in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll, after a 13-week reign at the top. The last time Dartmouth was ranked No. 1 was on March 20, 2001. No. 2 Golden Gophers split their weekend series with Minnesota State University-Mankato, defeating the Mavericks, 3-2 on Saturday, only to be taken down by the same score in overtime on Sunday. The win earned the Mavericks the No. 9 ranking and a return to the poll after last week's fall out of the top ten.

Dartmouth defeated Colgate University, 4-2, and blanked Cornell University, 5-0, in an ECAC showdown that earned the Big Green the No. 1 ranking. Dartmouth continues to face off within the conference when it hosts Union College in a two-game series beginning Jan. 30.

Though registering two wins, No. 4 University of Minnesota-Duluth fell one place in this week's poll. The Bulldogs fell to No. 4, while the University of Wisconsin took over the No. 3 ranking. The teams faced off Jan. 17 and 18, when the Badgers earned three conference points. Since then Wisconsin has been idle, while Duluth gained four WCHA points this weekend, registering 8-3 and 9-3 victories over St. Cloud State University.

The University of New Hampshire climbed to No. 8 this week, after notching two victories against Hockey East opponent Boston College. The Wildcats defeated the Eagles by scores of 7-0 and 7-2, on Friday and Sunday, respectively. The Wildcats were led by sophomore Lindsay Hansen, who recorded eight points (2-6) on the weekend, including a career-high five-point (1-4) game on Sunday, earning her Hockey East Player of the Week honors.

The seventh annual USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from women's college ice hockey coaches and journalists, as well as composite votes from officers of the American Hockey Coaches Association and American Hockey Magazine, the official publication of USA Hockey.
