Madison, Wis. - Minnesota (19-2-1/13-2-1) and Wisconsin (15-4-3/11-4-1) maintained their hold on first and second place, respectively, in the standings after weekend road sweeps.
Minnesota posted a 4-1 win at Bemidji State (5-20-1/3-15-0) Saturday and then completed the sweep with a 4-0 victory Sunday.
Wisconsin earned a 4-1 win at St. Cloud State (6-17-1/3-14-14) Friday and then skated to a 6-2 win on Saturday.
In the only other action on the weekend, Ohio State was edged by Mercyhurst, 2-1, Saturday on the road. Minnesota Duluth and Minnesota State had the weekend off.
Friday, Ohio State plays at Minnesota Duluth while Bemidji State hosts North Dakota. Saturday, Ohio State and Minnesota Duluth play the second game of their WCHA series while Minnesota State travels to Wisconsin. Minnesota hosts Dartmouth. The weekend concludes Sunday with Minnesota State at Wisconsin, Dartmouth at Minnesota and Bemidji State at North Dakota for the second game of a home-and-home series.

BEMIDJI STATE - Bemidji State will play its last non-conference series of the season on Friday, Feb. 6 and Sunday, Feb. 8 against the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. Friday's game will be played at the John Glas Fieldhouse, while Sunday's contest is at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D....BSU has compiled a 2-3-1 record against UND and the Fighting Sioux come away with a pair of victories (5-2, 4-2) over the Beavers in the last meeting between the two teams on Jan. 16 and 18. Bemidji State owns a 0-3-1 home record and a 2-2-0 mark at Ralph Engelstad Arena...BSU (5-20-1, 3-15-0 WCHA) was swept (1-4-, 0-4) by Minnesota (19-2-1, 13-2-1 WCHA) on Saturday, Jan. 31 and Sunday, Feb. 1 at the John Glas Fieldhouse....UM started the game's scoring at 4:21 when Kelly Stephens lit up the scoreboard to give the Golden Gophers a 1-0 lead. The Beavers quickly answered Minnesota, however, as Kelly Hart netted her team-leading eighth marker of the season at the 15:15 mark. Laura Lankton and Kate Robinson each secured helpers on the goal, their fourth and fifth of the season, respectively. Besides tying the game up at 1-1, BSU outshot UM 7-4 in the opening stanza...Krissy Wendell tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal for the Golden Gophers at 4:18 of the second period with her 18th goal of the year. Minnesota outshot the Beavers by a 7-4 clip in a period that saw just one goal...UM added two goals in less than 50 seconds in the final period of regulation, as Becky Wacker notched her ninth goal of the season at 17:01 and Andrea Nichols recorded her sixth lamplighter of the year at 17:49. The Beavers were unable to gener! ate any further scoring and were outshot 9-8 in the third period...For the game, Minnesota had 20 shots to BSU's 19. Netminder Anik Côté made 16 saves in the loss and is now 2-9-0 this season...Minnesota completed a two-game sweep of the Bemidji State women's hockey team with a 4-0 triumph on Sunday. With the win, the Golden Gophers solidified a 4-0 mark against the Beavers this season...Minnesota and outshot BSU by a 27-10 clip...Senior goaltender Anik Côté stopped 23 shots between the pipes for the Beavers. The captain now has a record of 2-10-0 this season...Head coach Bruce Olson is 2-3-1 all-time against North Dakota and holds a 8-28-6 record in games against teams from the WCHA...BSU has posted a record of 28-71-15 in WCHA competition, including a 3-15-0 mark this season.
Minnesota - Minnesota started a new winning streak after the Golden Gophers swept Bemidji State, 4-1 and 4-0 Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. The Golden Gophers improve to 19-2-1 overall and 13-2-1 in the WCHA. The Gophers allowed a total of 29 shots on goal the entire weekend, including 10 in the second game of the series. Minnesota allowed one lone shot on goal in the first period of the second game, which ranks the lowest allowed by Minnesota this season...Stacy Troumbly scored her first-career goal at 16:53 mark of the second game's third period. It was Troumbly's first goal in 94 games played and her fourth career point...Sunday's game marked the first time Brenda Reinen was in goal since Nov. 30 when she allowed one goal in the 10-1 win against North Dakota. It was Reinen's fifth start between the pipes, now sitting at 5-0-0. Reinen collected her second shutout of the season, while the first came Nov. 23 when she blanked Minnesota State, 4-0. Sunday's win was her first victory over the Beavers in four attempts. She holds an all-time record of 1-0-3 against BSU. Sunday's game also marked the team's second shutout of the Beavers this season. Minnesota shut down BSU in the last WCHA series on Dec. 5, 2003 in a 7-0 win...Krissy Wendell scored seven points on the weekend to put her as the team leader in points. In 22 games played this season, Wendell has tallied 19 goals and 25 assists for a team-high 44 points. She is 11 points away from tying her freshman points of 55. Wendell is also one point away from earning her 100th career point. Wendell is the third person to earn her 100th career point this season and the 11th person in school history to tally 100 points. Kelly Stephens and Natalie Darwitz already surpassed the 100-point mark...The Gophers are closing in on having nine of its 18 skaters with double digits. Wendell has 44 points, while Darwitz has 41 and Stephens has 38...The Maroon and Gold will face one of its toughest nonconference oppoenents next weekend when Dartmouth comes to town, Feb. 7-8. Both games are at Ridder Arena starting at 1:05 p.m. The Big Green is ranked first in both the USCHO and the AHM/USA Today polls, while Minnesota is second in the AHM poll and third in the USCHO.
Minnesota Duluth - Minnesota Duluth was off over the weekend...In their last outing, the Bulldogs earned their first sweep since Nov. 14-15 after defeating St. Cloud State 8-3 and 9-3 over the weekend. It is only the third sweep in the WCHA for UMD this season...Jenny Potter tallied a total of 10 points on the weekend, including a season high six (5-1-6) on Sunday. Potter's performance moved her into second place on UMD point board with 223 points. She now needs only nine to tie the team record set by Maria Rooth of 232...UMD set several team records over the weekend, including most shots on goal in a game and series (55, 97) and most points, goals and assists in a game (20, 9, 11)...The Bulldogs outshot St. Cloud State 97-47 in the two games. It is the first time in five series that UMD has posted better shots on goal then their opponents...Meghan Stotts recorded her first point of the year on Jenny Potter's game winning goal on Sunday. A total of eight Bulldogs notched a goal in the series...Allison Lehrke started the first two games of her career this weekend, filling in on the top line for injured teammate Jessica Koizumi, and tallied two goals, the most in a weekend for the rookie...Goaltender Anna-Kaisa Piiroinen started in her first two consecutive games against the Huskies. She recorded at total of 41 saves and moved her career record to 5-2-0.the Bulldogs wer 6 of 18 on the power play this weekend...UMD was missing four players for this weekend's matches. Jessica Koizumi is still out from the ankle injury she sustained against Minnesota (Jan. 10) and netminder Riitta Schaublin missed the series due to a head injury she sustained in the Jan. 17 game against Wisconsin. Senior Satu Kiipeli was out sick and fellow senior Tricia Guest will miss the next 1-2 weeks from illness as well...The Bulldogs, now 11-8-2, 8-5-1 WCHA, return to action at home on Feb. 6-7 when they tangle with Ohio State.
Minnesota State - Minnesota State is 13-7-3 and 6-5-3 in the WCHA after the split with top-ranked Minnesota at Ridder Arena. They had a weekend off to gear up for a series with Wisconsin in Madison...The Mavericks gave up three first-period goals to the Gophers last Saturday but held the hosts scoreless for the rest of the game. MSU scored a goal apiece in the second and third but fell 3-2. The two teams traded goals in the second period of Sunday's game and ended regulation tied 2-2. With just 14.4 seconds remaining, freshman Richelle St. Croix hammered home the game-winner to give MSU its first win over UM in 26 tries. It was the first home loss for Minnesota since Dec.1, 2002...With the win over the Gophers, the Mavericks have picked up wins over two teams that they had never beaten before this season. The other came in the first week of the season when MSU swept Minnesota Duluth at home. Both teams entered the game as the top-ranked team in the country...Senior netminder Shari Vogt faced a 74-43 shot disadvantage in the series but still backstopped the Mavericks to the split. She stopped 35 shots in Saturday's 3-2 loss and held the nation's top-scoring offense without a goal for the final two periods. The following afternoon, Vogt collected 33 saves and earned her first-ever win over Minnesota. She held the hosts to just one-of-eight on the power-play in that game and stopped 15 of 16 power-play shots...With 3,230 saves, Vogt now the holds the WCHA career record...Freshman defenseman Richelle St. Croix is one of four Mavericks with a pair of game-winning goals this season. However, she has been the most opportunistic by far. Both of game-winners have come late in the game. Her first career goal sank Providence with just 27 seconds remaining on Jan. 4. She repeated the feat on Sunday, dropping the Gophers with just 14.4 seconds left in overtime...With six assists in her last three games, freshman Autumn Conway has run away with the MSU freshman scoring lead. She has tallied a pair of helpers in each of the last three games, including one on the overtime game-winner against Minnesota on Sunday. She owns 4-10-14 numbers in her maiden season. Junior Kearstin Solberg continued her recent offensive resurgence as well, scoring three goals and two assists in the last three games. With 11 points on the season, her three-game output nearly matched her prior totals...Now with 19 assists on the season, sophomore Devon Nichols is inching closer to the single-season team record of 21. Nichols aided on defenseman Amber Sharratt's game-tying goal last Sunday to inch closer to the mark. She owns 27 points on the year, putting the scoring record of 39 points within reach as well...Sophomore defenseman Amber Sharratt tied the game with the Gophers on Sunday at 10:01 of the second period. The goal, her second of the season and her career, kept her atop the MSU defenseman scoring chart at 2-9-11.
Ohio State - Ohio State suffered a 2-1 road loss to non-conference opponent No. 7 Mercyhurst Saturday in Erie, Pa. With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 12-8-2 overall this season...The contest Saturday marked only the second meeting between OSU and MC. The Lakers lead the all-time series 2-0...The Buckeyes were outshot 36-21 by the Lakers, ending a seven-game Ohio State outshooting streak...Ohio State's penalty-killing unit held Mercyhurst to just one of four power-play chances. The Buckeyes have stopped their opponents on 88-of-97 power-plays this season...The Buckeyes scored a power-play goal, marking their third consecutive game they have scored on an extra-man opportunity. OSU has scored on 15-of-105 opportunities this season...Senior captain Erin O'Grady scored the Buckeyes' lone goal against Mercyhurst. The goal marked her seventh this season and her 25th career goal. O'Grady is tied for seventh on the team with 10 points this season...Leading the team with 18 points this season is sophomore Jana Harrigan. The Burlington, Ontario native also leads the Buckeyes with eight goals this season. Fifteen of Harrigan's points have come in conference games. Three Buckeyes follow with 14 points each - Meaghan Mulvaney, Jeni Creary and Emma Laaksonen...Eight Buckeyes have tallied double-digits in points this season - Jana Harrigan (18), Meaghan Mulvaney, Jeni Creary and Emma Laaksonen (14), Heather Farrell and Tessa Bonhomme (13) and Erin O'Grady and Amber Bowman (10)...Ohio State continues its road stretch as it travels to face Minnesota Duluth at 8:05 p.m. Saturday and Sunday Duluth, Minn...The series marks the 23rd and 24th meetings between the Buckeyes and the Bulldogs. UMD leads the series 19-1-2 overall and 7-0-1 in Duluth. Earlier this season, Minnesota Duluth swept Ohio State, 4-3 and 2-1, in Columbus, Ohio.
ST. CLOUD STATE - St. Cloud State was swept by No. 4 Wisconsin 4-1 and 6-2 over the weekend. The Huskies will now be idle before traveling to Grand Forks for a non-conference series with North Dakota on Feb. 14-15...In Friday night's 4-1 loss, the Huskies got their lone goal from freshman Bobbie Anderson, who scored on a wrap around from behind the Badger net. Calise Johnson was credied with her first assist of the season, while Jacqueline Jensen picked up her fourth helper of the year. The goal for Anderson was her third of the season, she leads all SCSU rookies with three goals...Freshman goalie Lauri St. Jacques started Friday's game, but left with an ankle injury after the Badgers took a 3-1 lead. She was relieved by senior Ellen Brinkman...In Saturday night's contest, the Husky power-play enabled SCSU to pull within 3-2 with two goals in the second period. Krista Simonson scored her first goal of the season on a rebound on assists from Ashley Stewart and Randie Jelinski. Carrie Holldorf made it a one goal game when she scored her 11th goal of the season on a deflection off a Kelly Stewart shot...The assist for Jelinski was her third in the last four games...The top line of Carrie Holldorf, Roxy Stang, and Ashley Stewart are each averaging a point per game. They have combined for 29 of the Huskies' 59 goals this season, and for 64 points...With one more point, Holldorf will equal last year's point total for the entire season. The 25 points was also a team-high in 2002-03...SCSU has now scored a power-play goal in six of their last seven games. In Friday's game, SCSU was unable to score on the power-play, which snapped a five-game streak on the power-play...The next opportunity for the Huskies to jump back into the WCHA race will be Feb. 20-21 when they host Minnesota Duluth at the National Hockey Center.
Wisconsin - Wisconsin earned four points in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings with a series sweep at St. Cloud State...The fourth-ranked Badgers defeated the Huskies 4-1 Friday and 6-2 Saturday at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn....Badger frosh Sara Bauer led the Badgers in overall scoring for the series with two goals and three assists, while classmate Lindsay Macy tallied two goals and two assists against the Huskies...UW senior Karen Rickard fired in three goals for the series to lead Wisconsin in goal scoring, including Saturday's game-winning power-play lamplighter...The Badgers split their net between goaltenders Meghan Horras and Christine Dufour...Horras collected 27 saves Friday, while Dufour posted 24 stops Saturday...Friday night's victory against St. Cloud State marked the first game all season where the Badgers were outshot by their opponents...The Huskies fired in 28 SOGs to the Badgers' 27...Saturday, Wisconsin upped its firepower finishing 34-26 in shots on goal against St. Cloud State...The Badgers finished just 1-8 on power-plays, while the Huskies were 2-7...Wisconsin improves to 15-4-1 overall and 11-4-1 in the league.
