Madison, Wis. - No. 4 Wisconsin (17-4-3/13-4-1) moved into a tie for first place with No. 2 Minnesota (20-3-1/13-2-1) after its series sweep of No. 9 Minnesota State (13-9-3/6-7-3) in Madison. The Gophers and the Badgers are tied with 27 points while No. 5 Minnesota Duluth (13-9-2/9-6-1) and Ohio State (13-9-2/9-8-1) are deadlocked in second place with 19 points. Minnesota State occupies fifth place in the standings with 15 points, followed by St. Cloud State (6-17-1/3-14-1) and Bemidji State (5-22-1/3-15-0).
Wisconsin posted a 3-0 win Saturday over Minnesota State and then completed the sweep with a 4-1 win Sunday. Ohio State traveled to Minnesota Duluth for the only other WCHA series on the weekend. Friday, Ohio State edged Minnesota Duluth 4-3 but Minnesota Duluth rebounded with a 5-1 win Saturday.
Minnesota hosted No. 1 Dartmouth in a non-conference series. Dartmouth edged Minnesota 3-2 Saturday. But Minnesota came back to earn a split with a 7-3 win on Sunday. Bemidji State fell to North Dakota in their home-and-home series, losing 5-1 at home Friday and 5-3 at North Dakota Sunday.
Three conference series highlight this week's schedule as the race for the playoffs heats up. The top two teams in the league do battle as Minnesota hosts Wisconsin for a two-game set Friday and Saturday. Minnesota Duluth travels to Bemidji State while Ohio State plays at Minnesota State Friday and Saturday. St. Cloud State is at non-conference opponent North Dakota for games Saturday and Sunday.

BEMIDJI STATE - Bemidji State will host three-time defending national champion Minnesota Duluth on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14 in its last home series of the season. Both games are set to start at 7:05 p.m....BSU is winless in 18 previous meetings with the Bulldogs, but the Beavers did earn a 3-3 tie with UMD on Feb. 3, 2002, at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center. Minnesota Duluth posted two victories (5-0, 8-0) over the Beavers early this season at the DECC (10-17/18-03)...BSU (5-22-1, 3-15-0 WCHA) was swept (1-5, 3-5) by non-conference foe North Dakota (13-14-2) in a home-and-home series over the weekend. North Dakota tallied three power-play goals and one shorthanded marker en route to a 5-1 victory on Friday night. The three power-play scores by UND were the most allowed by the Beavers this season. The Fighting Sioux jumped on the Beavers three times in the opening period, scoring three consecutive goals, each of which came on the power-play. Frosh Kate Robinson broke up the Fighting Sioux's attempt at a shutout with her sixth tally of the 2003-04 campaign off a helper from junior Nicky Kluck. Despite being outshot by a clip of 22-15 in the final two periods of play, North Dakota secured a 5-1 win. Sophomore netminder Jill Luebke made 21 saves between the pipes for the Beavers. Despite outshooting UND 36-28 and holding a one-goal lead on three different occasions, Bemidji State dropped Sunday's contest 5-3 at Ralph Engelstad Arena...Assistant captain Guylaine Haché recorded her 32nd career goal and 60th career point to open BSU's scoring in the opening stanza. Laura Lankton lit the lamp for the first time in her collegiate career later in the period and the two teams went to the first intermission tied at 2-2. Frosh Kelly Hart netted her team-leading ninth goal of the season and third power-play marker of the year to give BSU its final lead of the game. North Dakota scored back-to-back power-play goals and an empty-netter in the third period to solidify a 5-3 triumph. Jill Luebke stopped 23 shots in the loss for BSU...Head coach Bruce Olson is 0-6-0 all-time against Minnesota Duluth and holds a 8-28-6 record in games against teams from the WCHA...BSU has posted a record of 28-71-15 in WCHA competition, including a 3-15-0 mark this season.
Minnesota - Minnesota earned a split in the series against No. 1 Dartmouth College Feb. 7-8. The Gophers fell, 3-2 Saturday, but won 7-3 Sunday. With the win, Minnesota improves to 20-3-1...In the first game, the two teams visited the penalty box a total of 12 times in just the first period. Minnesota had eight penalties for 16 minutes, while Dartmouth had four penalties for eight minutes. La Toya Clarke scored a power-play goal at 12:33 of the first period, but Dartmouth tacked on two for a 2-1 lead. Minnesota's Kelly Stephens tied the game at :33 of the second, but Dartmouth added its game-winning goal at 11:17 of the second for the win...In the second game, Minnesota came out full force with a three-goal lead after the first period. Minnesota tallied two more goals in the second and the third for win. Minnesota had 12 of 16 skaters tally a point. Of the 12, six had a multiple-point game. Melissa Coulombe and Kelly Stephens had three points, while Andrea Nichols and Becky Wacker had two goals...The Gophers had 43 shots on goal against Dartmouth, while holding the opponent to 24. It was the first time since Dec. 11, 1999 that the Gophers had over 40 shots against Dartmouth. The win was the first victory against Dartmouth since the 2001-02 season. Minnesota's last victory dates back to Nov. 24, 2001 when Minnesota won, 3-2 in overtime. Since then Minnesota had fallen to Dartmouth three straight times...The game marked Minnesota's 20th win of the season. The Gophers have now had a 20-win season since the start of the program, dating back to the 1997-98 season. Minnesota's most wins in a season came in the 1999-2000 season when the championship team gathered a 32-6-1 record...Minnesota will play No. 4 Wisconsin next weekend for the rights to the No. 1 spot in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association...Minnesota (13-2-1 in WCHA action) and Wisconsin both teams have 27 conference points, although Wisconsin has played two more conference games then Minnesota. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. at Ridder Arena, Feb. 13-14. Minnesota holds an 18-3-1 all-time record against the Badgers.
Minnesota Duluth - The Bulldogs split with Ohio State this weekend after have a by week. The Buckeyes took game one on Friday, Feb. 6, 4-3 before UMD rebounded and handily defeated OSU on Saturday, Feb. 7, 5-1...The Bulldogs were playing with most of their roster again after missing four players in their last outing against St. Cloud State (Jan. 24-25). Jessica Koizumi and Riitta Schaublin both returned after injuries and Satu Kiipeli after illness....However, senior Tricia Guest was still missing from the line up due to illness, she is expected to return next weekend against Bemidji State...Senior Jenny Potter turned in another impressive performance against the Buckeyes garnering three goals and two assists, including the her seventh game-winning goal of the year. Potter's five points edged her even closer to the UMD career scoring title, as she now needs only four more to tie the record of 232 set my Maria Rooth. When she sets the record she will have accomplished the feat in just three years...A total of nine UMD skaters tallied points in the split with Ohio State. This season's point leader, Caroline Ouellette, added to her totals with 2-3-5, including 2-2-4 during the 5-1 victory on Saturday, Feb. 7. Rookie Jessica Koizumi, who missed the last four games due to an ankle injury, returned with fine form sending two goals past the Buckeye goaltenders over the weekend. Fellow newcomers Jill Sales got on the scoreboard again for the first time since Nov. 15, 2003 when she tallied her first career assist. Sales is one of only two rookies who is yet to score a goal...The Bulldogs continued their offensive ways this weekend, outshooting the Buckeyes 74-36 (36-16, 38-20). It is the second series in a row that UMD has been ahead on the shots board since going five series behind in shots at the end of the weekend...Saturday, the Bulldogs scored all five of their goals during the first period, including the first just 32 seconds into the stanza...Goaltender Riitta Schaublin appeared between the pipes again this weekend after sitting out the series against St. Cloud with a head injury. She added 31 saves to her career total (12, 19), while only letting in four goals. Schaublin is now 8-7-2 this campaign...UMD, now 13-9-2, 9-6-1 WCHA, will travel to Bemidji State, Feb. 13-14, for the completion of the two teams' WCHA regular season games against each other. Earlier this season Bemidji State dropped two games to the Bulldogs, 5-0 and 8-0 at the DECC. Both games are set for 7:05 p.m. faceoffs.
Minnesota State - Minnesota State now sits at 13-9-3 on the season and 6-7-3 in the WCHA. The Mavericks fell to No. 4 Wisconsin on the road by scores of 3-0 and 4-1...With 58 seconds remaining in the game on Sunday, MSU pulled gained an extra skater by pulling the goaltender but surrendered an empty-net goal to give the Badgers the 4-1 win...Freshman Sammy Miller tallied the lone Maverick goal on the weekend. The defenseman stole a Badger pass in front of the net and fired a shot that squeaked by the right leg of the UW goaltender. The unassisted goal was the first of her career and gives her 1-1-2 scoring on the season...Senior standout Shari Vogt had a busy weekend against the Badgers. On Saturday, she collected 29 saves while facing a 32-13 shot disparity in favor of the Badgers. Sunday, she stopped 35 shots, including eight power-play shots...Minnesota State played one of its cleanest games of the season on Saturday, committing just four penalties for eight minutes. On Sunday, they were able to hold the Badgers scoreless on eight power-play chances...After nine games on the road, Minnesota State returns to the confines of All Seasons Arena when they host Ohio State on Feb. 13-14. Game times are 7:05 p.m. and 4:05 p.m., respectively. The Ohio State series opens a six-game homestand for the Mavericks.
Ohio State - Ohio State earned two conference points as they split with Minnesota Duluth last weekend in Duluth, Minn. OSU upset the Bulldogs, 4-3, Friday, but fell, 5-1, Saturday...The Buckeyes earned their first victory over the Bulldogs in Duluth, Minn., and only their second win in the five-year history of the program. OSU's first victory against Minnesota Duluth was Dec. 2, 2000, in Columbus, Ohio...Ohio State's penalty-killing unit held Minnesota-Duluth to just 1-of-9 power-play chances on the weekend. The Buckeyes have stopped their opponents on 96-of-106 power-plays this season...Junior captain Meaghan Mulvaney posted three points against UMD. She scored two breakaway goals including a short-handed gamewinning goal to lead the Buckeyes Friday night. Mulvaney assisted on the Buckeyes' lone goal in the game Saturday. Mulvaney is now second on the team with 17 points (8-9-17)...Defenseman Amber Bowman led the Ohio State freshman class as she scored a goal and assisted on another in the 4-3 upset over the Bulldogs Friday. Bowman is eighth on the team this season with 12 points (3-9-12)...Senior Heather Farrell also posted a goal and an assist in the two-game series vs. UMD. Farrell scored the first goal of the game Friday. She assisted on the Amber Bowman's goal, which tied the game at 3-all in third period....OSU's goaltenders Melissa Glaser and Erika Vanderveer recorded 66 saves combined between the two games against UMD. Glaser tallied 46 saves in 80:00 minutes of action, while Vanderveer posted 20 in 40:00 minutes...Leading the team with 19 points this season is sophomore Jana Harrigan. The Burlington, Ontario native also leads the Buckeyes with nine goals this season. Sixteen of Harrigan's points have come in conference games...Ohio State finishes out its four-weekend road stretch against No. 9 Minnesota State at 7:05 p.m. Feb. 13 and 4:05 p.m. Feb. 14 in Mankato, Minn....The Buckeyes lead the all-time series 16-02 and 7-0-1 in Mankato, Minn. Earlier this season, Ohio State defeated MSU, 3-0, Jan. 16 and tied, 2-2, in overtime Jan. 17 in Columbus, Ohio.
ST. CLOUD STATE - St. Cloud State was idle over the weekend. They travel to Grand Forks, N.D. for a two-game non-conference series with the University of North Dakota on Feb. 14-15...The Huskies still have never lost to North Dakota. They are 6-0-0 against UND all-time, sweeping UND 2-1 and 5-4 at the National Hockey Center earlier this season...This will mark the second time the Huskies have played at the new Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks Last season they defeated UND at 'The Ralph' 2-0 and 4-2...Senior captain Kobi Kawamoto continues her chase to become the second player ever to reach 100 career points in Husky women's hockey. She has 89 career points and is second on the school's all-time scoring list....Junior forward Carrie Holldorf needs just one point to equal last season's team high of 25 points. She is also averaging a point in each game this season and leads the team in power play goals with four...Senior forward Roxy Stang has shattered the team record for most shots on goal in a season as she already has 101 shots this season. The old record of 73 was set in 1998-99...After their three game winning streak, the Huskies have lost four straight, including being swept by No. 5 ranked Minnesota Duluth and No. 4 ranked Wisconsin...Holldorf has scored a point in nine of the team's last 11 games while fellow linemate Roxy Stang has scored a point in 12 of the last 14 games. Each player had their scoring streaks snapped against Wisconsin on January 30 in St. Cloud...Sophomore defender Randie Jelinski has brought her season assist total to four after her three assists against Minnesota Duluth and Wisconsin. She had three assists in 2002-03 as a rookie.
Wisconsin - Wisconsin (17-4-3, 13-4-1 WCHA) earned four points in the league standings and a share of first place after sweeping visiting Minnesota State at the Kohl Center this weekend...The fourth-ranked Badgers shutout the ninth-ranked Mavericks 3-0 Saturday and then beat them 4-1 Sunday afternoon for the sweep...Additionally, Saturday's victory gave Wisconsin's its 100th all-time program victory and the sweep improves them to 101-46-17 in five seasons...Wisconsin frosh Sara Bauer led the Badgers in scoring for the second weekend in a row...The St. Catharines, Ontario native scored one unassisted goal and posted three assists to lead the Badgers...Wisconsin split its net again between goaltenders Meghan Horras and Christine Dufour. Horras recorded 13 saves Saturday for her second career shutout and second of the season, while Dufour posted 14 saves for her 10th win this season...The Badgers travel to play the Golden Gophers next weekend for a crucial conference series in Minneapolis.
