MADISON, Wis. - The Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs won their first Western Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season championship since the 1999-00 season with their sweep of Bemidji State last weekend.

The Bulldogs completed their regular season with the series, finishing 21-2-1 in WCHA action for 43 total points and 27-3-2 overall. Their 43 points equal the second-highest point total by a WCHA team. With the title, UMD earned the No. 1 seed for the 2003 WCHA Women's Final Five, March 6-8 at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.

Minnesota-Duluth's semifinal opponent is yet to be decided. The Bulldogs will face the winner of the four-five contest, which will be either Ohio State or Bemidji State. Those teams meet this weekend in Columbus, Ohio to determine which team finishes fourth in the regular season.

Minnesota, the No. 2 seed for the WCHA Women's Final Five, travels to Wisconsin, the No. 3 seed, for a series this weekend. The teams will meet three consecutive times, including a matchup in one semifinal at the Final Five.

In the third series of the weekend, St. Cloud State visits Minnesota State. The Mavericks trail the Huskies by one point for sixth place in Conference standings.
