BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS
Bemidji State earned a weekend series sweep with No. 9 St. Cloud State as they beat the Huskies 5-1 on Friday evening and then lost 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at the John Glas Fieldhouse. On Friday evening the Beavers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period as they scored three goals in 2:53. Helena Tageson (Malmo, Sweden) got the Beavers on the board at the 3:00 mark of the first period when she netted her eleventh goal of the season. Laura Lankton (Houghton, Mich.) and Kelly Hart (Ajax, Ontario) picked up the helpers on Tageson's goal. Just 1:35 later Kate Robinson (Shanty Bay, Ontario) beat the lone defenseman between her and the St. Cloud State goaltender and sniped a wrist shot past Lauri St. Jacques to put the Beavers up 2-0. Nikki Eckebrecht scored the third goal in the period for the Beavers at 5:53 of the first period to put the Beavers up 3-0. This was the first of two goals that Eckebrecht scores in the game. Both teams added a goal in the second period as Megan McCarthy recordd the Huskies lone goal at 9:34 of the second period to bring the Huskies with-in 3-1. The Beavers pushed its lead back to three goals when Kelly Hart netted her eight goal of the season at 11:36 of the second period. With the win Luebke was on a four game winning-streak the longest of her career. Bemidji State out-shot St. Cloud State 32-to-26 in the game. In game-two the Huskies dominated much of the action as they shut the Beavers out on Senior day. This was just the second time this season that the Beavers have been shut-out. In the first period of play the teams skated to a 0-0 deadlock. In the second period of play the Huskies turned up the defense, allowing the Beavers one shot on goal. St. Cloud State recorded the only goal in the period coming off the stick of Michelle Moen. That would be all the scoring the Huskies would need as added three more goals in the third period to complete the 4-0 shut-out. Jill Luebke (Neenah, Wis.) saw her four game winning streak snapped as she stopped 25 shots in a losing effort. Luebke falls to 7-10-1 on the season. With the loss Bemidji State saw its five game win-streak snapped, which was currently the longest win-streak in history. With the loss Bemidji State falls to 13-14-4 all-time against the Huskies. Bemidji State will prepare for its first round tournament series this week as they will travel to Minnesota Duluth. The Beavers have wrapped up sixth in the WCHA, which is the highest the Beavers have finished in the WCHA since the 2002-03 season when they finished fifth.
