MADISON, Wis. - The culmination of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association season occurs this week, March 6-8, at the 2003 WCHA Women's Final Five.
Held at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D., five League teams will compete for the WCHA postseason championship. Regular-season champion Minnesota-Duluth earned the tournament's top seed after finishing with 43 points and a 21-2-1 Conference record. Minnesota is the No. 2 seed, finishing the season with 39 points. Wisconsin took 32 points to earn the No. 3 seed Ohio State, with 19 points, is the fourth seed after taking three of four points from fifth-seed Bemidji State last weekend. The Beavers finished their season with 16 points.
The Buckeyes and Beavers will meet for the third-consecutive game when the tournament begins Thursday, March 6 at 4:05 p.m. The winners will face Minnesota-Duluth in the 7:05 p.m. semifinal on Friday, March 7.
Also meeting for their third-straight match are the Badgers and Gophers. The teams split at Wisconsin last weekend, but will meet for a chance to play for the 2003 postseason championship this time.
The third-place contest will take place on Saturday, March 8 at 4:05 p.m. Two teams will play for the League title at 7:05 p.m. that same evening.
