GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Top-seeded Minnesota-Duluth reached the 2003 WCHA Women's Final Five Championship Game with a 6-1 victory over No. 4-seed Ohio State at Ralph Engelstad Arena on Friday night.

The Bulldogs took the lead 7:28 in the first period, when UMD's Erika Holst posted the first goal of the game. Minnesota-Duluth's Jenny Hempel scored at 16:49, increasing its lead to 2-0. UMD held an 18-9 edge in shots.

In the second, Minnesota-Duluth's Holst posted her second goal of the game at 4:02. The Bulldogs recorded a power-play goal and their fourth goal of the game at 10:30 by Jonanne Eustace. Ohio State was held to four shots, while UMD tallied 15 during the second.

OSU's Jana Harrigan put the Buckeyes on the scoreboard at 2:01 with a 4-on-4 unassisted goal. Minnesota-Duluth's Caroline Ouellette followed with two goals at 5:12 and 13:41. The Bulldogs led 15-5 in shots during the period.

Ohio State goaltender April Stojak recorded 42 saves and fell to 9-1-42. Minnesota-Duluth's Patricia Sautter tallied 17 saves and improved to 23-3-2.

The Bulldogs advance to tomorrow's title game against second-seed Minnesota. The teams meet at 7:05 p.m. at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

The Buckeyes take on No. 3-seed Wisconsin at 4:05 p.m. Saturday in the third-place game of the tournament.
