MADISON, Wis. - The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) dominated the 2005 American Hockey Coaches Association 2005 Women's CCM All-America Team announced Friday. The WCHA placed five players on the first team and three on the second team to lead all leagues with eight selections.

Wisconsin's Molly Engstrom and Minnesota's Lyndsay Wall were named the first-team defensemen while Minnesota's Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell and Minnesota Duluth's Caroline Ouellette were named the first-team forwards. Minnesota goaltender Jody Horak along with defensemen Carla MacLeod of Wisconsin and Julianne Vashichek of Minnesota Duluth were named to the second team.

Engstrom, a senior from Siren, Wis., was named the 2005 WCHA Defensive Player of the Year as well as a first-team All-WCHA selection. She ranked among the league and national leaders in scoring among defensmen. Wall, a sophomore from Churchill, N.Y., led the WCHA defensemen in scoring and was a first-team All-WCHA selection. Wendell, a junior from Brooklyn Park, Minn., was named the WCHA Player of the Year for the second straight tear. A first-team All-WCHA pick, Wendell ranked among the league and national leader in all offensive categories. Wndell is second nationally with 102 points. Darwitz, a junior from Eagan, Minn., was a first-team All-WCHA selection and led the league in scoring with 72 points. She is also the nation's top point-getter with 110 points. Ouellett, a senior from Montreal, Quebec, was a first-team All-WCHA pick and was named the 2005 WCHA Scholar-Athlete. She led the league with 28 goals and tied Wendell for second with 67 points. Darwitz, Wendell and Ouellette are the top three finalists for the 2005 Patty Kazmaier Award which is presented to the top player in women's collegiate hockey. It marks the first time all of the top three finalists have hailed from the WCHA.

Horak, a senior from Blaine, Minn., captured the 2005 WCHA Goaltending Award as she led the league with a 0.89 goals against average and a .952 save percentage. She was named to the All-WCHA second team and ranks second nationally with a 1.40 overall goals against average. MacLeod, a senior from Calgary, Alberta, was a second-team All-WCHA selection and ranked among the league's top scoring defensemen. Vashichek, a senior from Great Falls, Mont., was also named to the All-WCHA second team and ranked second in the league in scoring among defensmen with 28 points.
