St. Cloud, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State University women's hockey team recently announced its team award winners for the 2002-03 season. Senior goalie Laura Gieselman (Annandale) gained the team's Most Valuable Player award this winter, and she was also named the team's Academic Achievement award winner for 2002-03. Gieselman completed her award hat trick by being selected as the St. Cloud Times inaugural Star of the Season.

Senior forward/defender Amanda Mathison (Newport) gained the squad's Most Determined Player award, while first year defender Randy Jelinski (Regina, Sask.) was named the team's MOst Improved Player this winter. First year forward Ashley Stewart (Toronto, Ont.) was named the team's Rookie of the Year.

SCSU head coach Jason Lesteberg also announced that defender Kobi Kawamoto (Surrey, B.C.) will serve as the team captain for the second consecutive season in 2003-04, and she will be assisted by defender Leanne Perrin (Maple Ridge, B.C.) and defender Tina Ciraulo (Fraser, Mich.) as the alternates.
