Mankato, Minn. - Kevin Buisman, Director of Athletics, has announced that three candidates have been selected as finalists in Minnesota State's search for a new women's hockey head coach. The three finalists, who will visit MSU as part of the selection process, are listed below.

"This is a talented group of candidates with very diverse backgrounds and a variety of professional experiences," said Buisman. "We have heard a lot of wonderful things about what each of these candidates might bring to our program and I feel very good about these finalists. I am excited about the opportunity to have them visit our campus, so that we can further assess their ability to lead our program, and so they can learn more about MSU women's hockey, the university and our community."

Joakim Flygh, Women's Hockey Assistant Coach, Harvard University (May 4 interview) Has served as an assistant coach with the Harvard women's program for the last two years...Harvard has gone 41-12-3 and have won two Ivy League and two ECAC regular-season crowns during that time...In 2007-08 the Crimson went 32-2 en route to the programs fifth Frozen Four appearance...His responsibilities include coordinating recruiting, monitoring academic progress and acting as a liaison with the school's admissions office....Joined Harvard after spending three seasons as an assistant coach with the women's hockey program at Minnesota Duluth...In three years at UMD, the Bulldogs posted a 72-26-9 record and qualified for the NCAA tournament three times...Prior to UMD he worked three years as an assistant coach with the men's program at New England College where the Pilgrims went 53-23-4 and earned three second-place league finishes...A 2000 New England College grad, played defense for the Pilgrims as an undergraduate and later played professionally in Sweden for Lysekil...A native of Tyringe, Sweden, owns a master's degree in organizational management from New England in 2002.

Paul Colontino, Women's Hockey Associate Head Coach, Mercyhurst (May 5 interview) Has helped guide the Mercyhurst women's program to a 57-14-3 record the last two seasons...The Lakers advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in 2007-08 and made it to the national championship game in 2008-09 where they fell to Wisconsin...Spent three years (2002-2005) as an assistant coach with the women's program at the University of North Dakota... Served as an assistant coach with the Lakers for two seasons prior to joining UND...He received his bachelor's degree from Mercyhurst in Archaeology (2000) and his master's degree in Organizational Leadership (2002). He was a four-year member of the men's ice hockey team where he captained the squad as a senior. In addition, he was honored with the Mercyhurst College Student-Athlete of the year award, was named All-MAAC co-defensive player of the year, and was a first team All-MAAC selection.

Eric Means, Men's Hockey Assistant Coach, Minnesota State (May 6 interview) Has been a member of the Minnesota State men's hockey coaching staff for 14 seasons...During this time the Mavericks have transitioned from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I and have been members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association since 1999-2000...Has worked with MSU defensemen and in addition to on-ice coaching and administrative responsibilities, has also monitored student-athlete academic progress and served as MSU's recruiting coordinator...A former defenseman at the University of Minnesota (`94 grad), the Gophers claimed one league regular season and two play-off titles, and advanced to the NCAA post-season tournament from 1989-94...Redshirted during the 1990-91 season, but was selected to play for Team USA at the World University Games...Accumulated eight goals and 40 points in 123 games and as a senior received the Doc Romnes Leadership and Sportsman Award...Rochester, Minn., native earned a master's degree from MSU in 1997 and has served as a coach at several USA Hockey select camps.
