Mankato, Minn.-- Minnesota State women's hockey has announced that Elaine Topolnisky of Logan Lake, B.C., has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to attend Minnesota State University, Mankato next fall.

Topolnisky, a forward, played on the 2001 Vancouver Griffins team of the National Women's Hockey League and was also a member of the 2001 Esso women's national tournament team. A senior from New Wesminster Secondary High School, she played in the 2000 British Columbia Winter Games and was on the Team Pacific 18 and Under Challenge. Topolnisky played in the Canada Winter Games as a sophomore in 1999.

"Elaine is an agile forward who plays both ends of the ice very well," assistant coach Chris Hvinden said. "She is a spark plug on the ice and will give an all out effort every shift. A great kid who will be a solid addition to our forwards this coming season."

Topolnisky is the first forward to sign a letter of intent for the 2001-02 season. Signing earlier this season was two defensemen: Nicole Magnuson and Lindsay McCulloch.
