Minneapolis, Minn. - Former University of Minnesota women's hockey goaltender Erica Killewald (Troy, Mich./Troy) has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and will undergo surgery this week in Michigan. Further information will be released as it becomes available.

The Women's Athletics Department and Athletics Director Chris Voelz released this statement on Monday. "We are shocked and concerned to learn of Erica's health problems, " said Voelz. "We offer best wishes to Erica and her family during this difficult time."

Killewald was the Golden Gophers' starting goalie during each of the program's first four seasons. She earned AWCHA Tournament MVP honors in 2000, leading Minnesota to the national title. As a senior in 2000-01, Killewald was named a first-team All-WCHA Women's League selection and helped the Gophers win their first conference regular-season title.
