COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's hockey team has finalized its 2009-10 schedule, head coach Jackie Barto announced Thursday. The Buckeyes will face half of the teams ranked in the Top 10 of the U.S. College Hockey Online poll at the conclusion of last season, including four that played in the NCAA tournament.
After an exhibition game at the OSU Ice Rink Sept. 26 against Wilfrid Laurier University from Waterloo, Ontario, Ohio State will officially open its 2009-10 slate on the road at Boston University of the Hockey East conference, Oct. 2-3.
The Buckeyes host 2009 Frozen Four participant Minnesota in their first home series, Oct. 9-10. It is the first of six-consecutive series against Western Collegiate Hockey Association opponents. The team then hits the road for back-to-back series at Bemidji State and defending NCAA champ Wisconsin before returning to home ice Halloween weekend to play Minnesota State.
After another road series at North Dakota, Ohio State takes on another 2009 Frozen Four team at the OSU Ice Rink in Minnesota Duluth, Nov. 13-14. The next weekend, the Buckeyes break from league action at home to face St. Lawrence, who finished second in the ECAC Hockey League and also played in the NCAA tournament.
Ohio State will be off for Thanksgiving weekend as well as the first weekend of December. The team concludes the first half of their season with a WCHA series at St. Cloud State, Dec. 11-12.
The Buckeyes ring in 2010 in Columbus with their final non-league series of the season against Robert Morris of the College Hockey America conference, Jan. 2-3, followed by two weeks on the road at Minnesota and Minnesota State.
Four of Ohio State's final five regular-season series will be at the OSU Ice Rink, starting with a three-week homestand in which the team welcomes Bemidji State (Jan. 22-23), Wisconsin (Jan. 29-30) and North Dakota (Feb. 5-6). After a trip to Minnesota Duluth, the Buckeyes conclude the regular season at with a home series against St. Cloud State, Feb. 19-20.
Postseason play begins Feb. 26-28 with the WCHA First Round Playoffs, a best-of-three series with the top four teams claiming home ice. Minnesota hosts the WCHA FINAL FACE-OFF, which includes the semifinal and championship games, March 6-7 at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis. NCAA Regionals will be held at various sites, March 12-13, with the final four teams returning to Ridder Arena for the NCAA Frozen Four, March 19 and 21.
