Colorado Springs, Colo. - Eleven Olympians are among the group of 40 elite ice hockey players invited to the 2005 USA Hockey National Women's Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y., August 18-25, 2005. The festival will serve as the selection camp for the 2005-06 U.S. Women's National Team that will train in preparation for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy, in February.

All 20 members of the 2005 world-champion U.S. Women's National Team are slated to attend the festival along with top players from the collegiate and professional ranks. The players will be divided into two teams to compete in daily practices and a round-robin tournament at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid.

"After hours, weeks, months and years of viewing and evaluating players, our staff is convinced that we are bringing the top 40 players in the United States under one roof, on one sheet of ice to pursue their ultimate goal, and that is to play for the U.S. Women's Olympic Ice Hockey Team," said Ben Smith, head coach of the U.S. Women's National Team.

On August 25, at the conclusion of the camp, USA Hockey will announce the roster for the 2005-06 U.S. Women's National Team. That team will train and compete in cities around the country leading up to the 2006 Olympic Winter Games. Prior to the Games, the roster will be trimmed to 20 players.
