Buckeye To Compete At Canadian National Camp

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State women's ice hockey incoming freshman Morgan Marziali was selected to compete at Canada's National Under-22 Development and Selection Camp Aug. 12-21 in Calgary, Alberta.
The camp features a three-team tournament made up of the Top 40 Canadian Under-22 players split into two teams of 20 and the Finnish National Women's Team. At the conclusion of the camp 18 athletes will be chosen for the Canadian National Under-22 Team, which will compete in a three-game series vs. Canada's Olympic Centralized Team Aug. 23, 25 and 26 in Calgary, Alberta. The four eligible Under-22 players with the Canadian Women's National Centralized Team (Meghan Agosta, Ohio State's Tessa Bonhomme, Ashley Riggs and Sarah Vaillancourt) will join the 18-member roster of the Under-22 Team to compete against the centralized team.
A native of St. Mary's, Ontario, Marziali previously was a four-year starter on the St. Michael's High School team and played on the London Devilettes club team. She guided St. Michael's to three conference championships and Team Ontario to a gold medal at the 2005 Women's Under-18 Hockey Challenge in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. Over the course of her club hockey career, Marziali has served as both a team captain and assistant captain, earned five provincial medals (1 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze) and won two Silversticks tournaments.
The Under-22 Team will participate in one competition this year, the European Air Canada Cup Jan. 1-8, 2006 in Germany.
Canada's National Under-22 Team is the first step in Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence aimed at women aged 18-21 playing hockey. It allows them to experience international competition and identifies the players that have potential to move on to the National Women's Team.
Ohio State opens the 2005-06 season Oct. 7-8 when the Buckeyes take on St. Cloud State at the OSU Ice Rink in Columbus, Ohio.
