Cote was a standout goaltender at the University of Vermont from 2001-05 and was the ECAC Goaltender of the Year and an ECAC First Team All-League selection as a senior in 2004-05. Cote's head coach at Vermont was Dennis Miller, who was recently hired as UND's associate head coach.

Cote has extensive experience as a hockey instructor, having served as a goalie coach in each of the last two summers and both the USA Hockey New England Development Camp and the Breakaway Hockey Camp in Burlington, Vt. In addition to several other hockey camps, she has also served as a personal goaltending instructor since 2000
