Bemidji State women's hockey coach Steve Sertich was an assistant coach for the U.S. Women's Under-22 Select Team that fell to Canada, 4-3, in overtime Saturday in the final game of the 2008 Women's Under-22 Series. The Americans finished with a 0-1-1-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record in the three-game series.

"This was a great hockey game, typical of the competition between the U.S. and Canada," said Jackie Barto, head coach for Team USA and also the head women's ice hockey coach at The Ohio State University. "Overall, I'm happy with the way our team has developed and matured over the course of our time together."

Sam Faber (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) tapped in a rebound of Monique Lamoureux's (Grand Forks, N.D.) shot from the point to put Team USA on the board at 14:25 of the opening period. Crysti Howser (Wilmette, Ill.) raced down the left wing and beat Canadian goalie Christina Kessler short side to give the United States a 2-0 lead at 16:54.

After Liz Knox replaced Kessler in the Canadian net at 10:10 of the second stanza, Jocelyne Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) scored a power-play goal at 15:30 to give Team USA a three-goal lead. Canada responded with two power-play goals in less than two minutes, as the U.S. led 3-2 after 40 minutes.

Canada tied the score with a five-on-three power-play goal at 3:39 of the third period. Neither team was able to find the back of the net again in regulation, as play went to a five-minute overtime.

Catherine Ward scored on a quick rebound just :48 into the extra session to give Canada the 4-3 win.
