The University of Minnesota women's athletics and Gopher women's hockey have announced that Winny Brodt will not compete in the 2001-02 season. Brodt's intentions are to take this season off, but play her senior year with the Gophers for the 2002-03 campaign.

Brodt came to the University of Minnesota as a transfer from New Hampshire following 1997-98 season. Brodt played two years with the Gophers and scored a goal and four points in the AWCHA Championship. Brodt left the Gophers after her junior season to compete with the U.S. National Team.
