MADISON, Wis. - The Western Collegiate Hockey Association today (Oct. 8, 2008) announced it's players of the week for Oct. 8-14. Honored are Wisconsin's Hilary Knight on offense, Ohio State's Liana Bonanno on defense, and the Badgers' Brooke Ammerman as rookie.

WCHA Offensive Player of the Week
Hilary Knight - So., F, University of Wisconsin

Wisconsin's Hilary Knight, a sophomore winger from Hanover, New Hampshire who had a career five-goal night while also recording her first natural hat trick in a 7-3 victory over Quinnipiac on Sept. 27 at the Kohl Center in Madison, has been named WCHA Offensive player of the Week for Oct. 8-14. Knight had seven goals in the and two assists for nine scoring points in the series sweep of the Bobcats.

Her play has helped Wisconsin open the season with a 4-0-0 mark in non-conference games. Last weekend, with Knight sidelined, the Badgers swept Syracuse.

Also nominated for the award this week were: Tawni Mattila, F, Minnesota Duluth; Lisa Edman, F, Minnesota State; Melissa Jaques F, North Dakota; and Megan McCarthy, F, St. Cloud State.

WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
Liana Bonanno - Sr., G, Ohio State University

Goaltender Liana Bonanno led visiting Ohio State to an upset sweep at No. 9-ranked Providence, Oct. 3-4 in Providence, R.I. The senior from Mount Sinai, N.Y. made a total of 70 saves in the weekend series with just three goals allowed to the Friars for a .959 saves percentage.

Bonanno made 39 saves, just three shy of her career high, in a season-opening 2-1 victory last Friday. Bonanno has now made 30 or more saves in a game 19 times in her collegiate career.
