MADISON, Wis. - The Western Collegiate Hockey Association today announced the women's players of the week for Nov. 4-10, 2009. They are St. Cloud State University forward Meaghan Pezon on offense, University of Wisconsin goaltender Becca Ruegsegger on defense, and Ohio State University forward Hokey Langan as rookie.

WCHA Offensive Player of the Week

Meaghan Pezon, Sr., F, St. Cloud State

St. Cloud State winger Meaghan Pezon, a senior from Eden Prairie, Minn., scored two goals and had four assists for six points last weekend to help the host Huskies earn a weekend WCHA series split with visiting North Dakota.

Pezon scored two goals and assisted on two other for four points in the first game of the series last Friday (Oct. 30), a 5-4 overtime loss for SCSU, marking a new personal career-high points total in a single game. Then last Saturday (Oct. 31), Pezon came back to produce assists on each of St. Cloud State's first two goals en route to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Sioux and their first league win of the season.

In addition to her six scoring points in the series last weekend, Pezon also fired 15 shots on goal - including 10 in the game last Friday - and earned a +1 plus/minus rating.

Through eight games played this season, Pezon has three goals, five assists and eight points.

Also nominated for the award this week were: Franny Door, F, BSU; Laura Fridfinnson, F, UMD; Ashley Young, F, MSU; Alyssa Wiebe, F, UND; Natalie Spooner, F, OSU; and Brooke Ammerman, F, UW.

WCHA Defensive Player of the Week

Becca Ruegsegger, Fr., G, Wisconsin

Wisconsin's Becca Ruegsegger, a freshman goaltender from Lakewood, Colo., helped the host Badgers to a two-game WCHA series sweep over No. 2-ranked Minnesota over the Halloween weekend, holding the Gophers to just four goals.

The back-to-back wins enabled Ruegsegger to claim her first series sweep as a collegiate player, as she posted four shutout periods and tallied a total of 64 saves over the weekend, including a career-high 38 saves last Sunday (Nov. 1). In Wisconsin's 4-2 win over visiting Minnesota last Friday (Oct. 30) afternoon, Ruegsegger stopped 26 of 28 shots on goal and blanked the Gophers on all three of their power-play chances.

Ruegsegger's performance in the nets last Sunday, which resulted in a 5-2 Wisconsin victory, was highlighted when she stopped 13 Minnesota power-play shots in the third period, including an intense 1:43 during a 5-on-3 situation.

On the season, Ruegsegger ranks second among WCHA players overall in goals-against average (2.01) and fourth in both saves percentage (.924) and winning percentage (4-2-0, .667).

Also nominated this week were: Zuzana Tomcikova, G, BSU; Jennifer Harss, G, UMD; Paige Thunder, G, MSU; Kelly Lewis, D, UND; and Kelly Wild, D, OSU.

WCHA Rookie of the Week

Hokey Langan, Fr., F, Ohio State

Hokey Langan, a freshman forward from Chatham, Ont., led the host Ohio State Buckeyes to their first sweep of the 2009-10 season last weekend with six points on three goals and three assists against Minnesota State, Mankato.

Last Friday (Oct. 30) at the OSU Ice Rink, Langan had four points in the Buckeyes' 7-6 come-from-behind win over the visiting Mavericks. She scored the second and fourth Buckeye goals and assisted on two of the last three OSU lamplighters scored in the final 7:00 of the game, including the game-winner with just :43 seconds left in regulation.

On Saturday, Langan then added two more points with a goal and assist. She opened the scoring for Ohio State with a power-play goal just 1:15 into the game and then set up the third goal as the Buckeyes pulled away for the 4-1 victory.

Langan has now had four consecutive multi-point games with 10 points (5g, 5a) in that span. She has a six-point advantage in points over any other rookie to lead the NCAA in freshman scoring and also leads the WCHA with 15 points on seven goals and eight assists.

Also nominated for the award this week were: MacKenzie Thurston, D, BSU; Lauren Smith, F, MSU; Mary Loken, F, UND; and Stefanie McKeough, D, UW.
