MADISON, Wis. – Host teams North Dakota and St. Cloud State both earned Western Collegiate Hockey Association victories on Friday (Nov. 6), as the Fighting Sioux slipped past Ohio State, 5-4, and the Huskies defeated Minnesota Duluth, 5-1. In the one other league matchup, host Minnesota State, Mankato and Bemidji State played to a 2-2 overtime tie before the visiting Beavers claimed the shootout, 3-2, to gain the extra point.

In non-conference play on Friday afternoon, host Wisconsin fell by a 3-1 count to Robert Morris of College Hockey America, lowering the WCHA’s non-conference mark in 2009-10 to 8-9-2.

On Saturday in WCHA encounters, North Dakota (3-5-1, 3-5-1 WCHA) will host Ohio State (4-4-3, 4-4-1 WCHA) at 4:07 pm CT at Ralph Engelstad Arena, St. Cloud State (3-6-0, 2-5-0 WCHA) entertains Minnesota Duluth (6-5-0, 4-3-0 WCHA) at the National Hockey Center at 7:07 pm CT, and Minnesota State (3-2-2, 1-2-2-1 WCHA) hosts Bemidji State (2-7-2, 1-2-2-2 WCHA) at All Seasons Arena at 3:07 pm CT. Another non-conference contest features Wisconsin (5-4-0) taking on Robert Morris at 2:07 pm CT at the Kohl Center. League-leading Minnesota (8-2-0, 6-2-0 WCHA) is idle this week.

As a result of Friday’s league games, fifth place North Dakota has moved with two points of third, sixth place Bemidji State is one point back of UND, and St. Cloud State is within two points of BSU. Through Nov. 6, just four points separate five teams from second place UW from sixth place BSU.

At Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks on Friday, host UND received two goals from winger Alyssa Wiebe and a third period game-winner from winger Kelsey Ketcher at 8:47 to upend Ohio State, 5-4, before 471. The Sioux, who used a 29-save performance from Stephanie Ney in goal, won despite being outshot, 33-19. For the Buckeyes, winger Raelyn LaRocque led the way with a goal and two assists while center Ashley Furia added a goal and an assist for the Sioux.

At the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, the host SCSU Huskies had a two-goal performance from winger Holly Snyder and a second period power-play game-winner from winger Brittany Toor in a 5-1 triumph over visiting Minnesota Duluth before 203. St. Cloud State, which never trailed in the game, also had a goal and an assist from winger Felicia Nelson and 31 saves from Ashley Nixon. For the Bulldogs, Jennifer Harss had 32 stops between the pipes while winger Vanessa Thibault had a second period power-play goal that closed the gap to 2-1.

At All Seasons Arena in Mankato on Friday, Bemidji State winger Annie Bauerfeld scored a game-tying goal with an extra attacker at 19:59 of the third period to gain a 2-2 tie with Minnesota State before 513. BSU then went on to win a 13-round shootout, 3-2, on a goal from defenseman Erika Wheelhouse to gain the extra point. Also for the Beavers, who were blanked on all eight of their power-play chances, defenseman Montana Vichorek had an early third period goal. For the Mavericks, wingers Lauren Zrust and Christian Lee scored first and third period goals, respectively, giving their team 1-0 and 2-1 leads.

And at the Kohl Center on Friday afternoon, visiting Robert Morris upended host Wisconsin, 3-1, before 1,679 despite being outshot, 29-20. Winger Jennifer Kindret scored twice for the Colonials in the second period, including the game-winner at 17:20, and goaltender Daneca Butterfield made 28 saves. For the host Badgers, defenseman Saige Pacholok had a third period goal at 9:28 to close the gap to 2-1.
