Nov. 20, 2000

University of Minnesota women's assistant hockey coach Libby Witchger, a member of the Gopher women's hockey staff since 1997, is resigning her position, effective Nov. 27, and leaving the coaching profession to return to school. A search for her replacement will begin immediately.

Witchger, the first assistant coach hired by head coach Laura Halldorson, was primarily responsible for coaching the teamıs goalies. In that role, she was instrumental in developing senior Erica Killewald, who led the nation in goals against average and save percentage in 1999 and was named the MVP of the American Women's College Hockey Association National Championship last season.
