WCHA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Emma Laaksonen - Ohio State

Emma Laaksonen recorded two power-play goals, including the game-winner, and assisted on the first goal in Ohio State's 4-3 win over Providence.

The sophomore anchored a Buckeye defense that allowed Connecticut just seven shots on goal and was an integral part of Ohio State's specialty teams in both games. Laaksonen was on the ice for all three Buckeye power-play goals (Ohio State was 3-for-9 on the weekend) and led a penalty-kill unit that killed 10-of-11 penalties through two games. She emerged with a +2 rating and took six shots on net.

After seeing action in only eight games, Laaksonen is tied for second on the team with eight points from three goals and five assists and has five power-play points.

WCHA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Jeni Creary - Ohio State
Frosh * Forward
Shell Lake, Saskatchewan
vs. Connecticut (11/16)
vs. Providence (11/18)

Jeni Creary scored the go-ahead goal on the power play against Providence and picked up two assists, including the primary assist on Shana Frost's gamewinner, to help Ohio State to a 3-1 win over host Connecticut.

She was on the ice for all seven Buckeye goals and took eight shots on net through two games. Creary helped the power-play unit go 3-for-9 and led a penalty-kill unit that killed 10-of-11 penalties through two games.

After 12 games, the frosh left wing leads the league and the nation with 12 goals and 19 points, has taken 61 shots on net and sports a +9 rating.
