COLUMBUS, Ohio-Jackie Barto, Ohio State women's hockey head coach, today announced Katelyn Sershen has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Ohio State and play hockey beginning in the Fall of 2002. Sershen, a 5 foot, six inch defenseman and native of Woodbury, Minn., attends Woodbury High School and plays club hockey for the Minnesota Thoroughbreds.

"We are very excited Katie will be a Buckeye," Barto said. "She is an excellent defender. She skates well and has a very good presence on the ice. Katie is an excellent fit for our program and will strengthen our defensive corps."

Sershen is a fifth-year member and captain of the Minnesota Thoroughbreds, the former club team of Buckeye defenseman/center Katie Frohreich (Jr., Baudette, Minn./Lake of the Woods). In 1998-99, the Thoroughbreds won the state title and finished second at nationals in Washington, D.C. Shershen also was selected to U.S. Junior National Camp in Lake Placid in 1998, 2000 and '01, and is a member of the Community Olympic Development Program.

The daughter of Frank and Sue, Sershen has two sisters, Kari and Krista. In her spare time she plays softball and enjoys weight training, rollerblading and waterskiing.
