MADISON, Wis. – The Western Collegiate Hockey Association today announced it’s players of the week for November 26-December 2, 2008. They are University of Minnesota Duluth forward Elin Holmlov on offense, University of North Dakota goaltender Stephanie Ney on defense, and University of Minnesota forward Monique Lamoureux as rookie of the week.

WCHA Offensive Player of the Week
Elin Holmlov • Jr., F, University of Minnesota Duluth
University of Minnesota Duluth left winger Elin Holmlov, who scored four goals on four shots in the Bulldogs’ 6-2 win over league rival North Dakota last Saturday (Nov. 22) at the DECC, is the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week.
    The junior forward from Knivsta, Sweden, scored the Bulldogs’ first four goals. Holmlov’s first goal tied the game at 1-1 at 14:38, while her second goal at 3:03 of the second period, a power-play, gave UMD a 2-1 lead. The eventual game-winning goal was scored by Holmlov with :24 seconds remaining in the second period. She then added her fourth goal at 4:01 in the third period to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 advantage. The hat-trick was Holmlov’s second of the season, and second in WCHA play this season. In addition to her four goals, she also fired 10 shots on goal in the series.
    On the season, Holmlov has tallied 11 goals and five assists in league play through just 10 games, and leads the WCHA in both goals and power-play goals (4).
    Also nominated for the award this week were: Christina Lee F, Minnesota State; Melissa Jaques, F, North Dakota; Holly Roberts, F, St. Cloud State; and Erika Lawler, F, Wisconsin.

WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
Stephanie Ney • Fr., G, University of North Dakota
University of North Dakota goaltender Stephanie Ney, who recorded her first collegiate shutout in a 4-0 victory over defending national and WCHA champion Minnesota Duluth last Sunday (Nov. 23), is the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week.
    A freshman from 100 Mile House, B.C, Ney stopped all 45 shots on goal in the game played at the DECC in Duluth, coming up with 35 saves in the final two periods. The visiting Fighting Sioux prevailed 4-0 despite being outshot, 45-28. In addition, Ney also played a key role in holding the Bulldogs scoreless on all five of their power-play opportunities.
    In her first collegiate season at UND, Ney owns a 4-2-0 record, a 2.48 goals-against average and a .927 saves percentage over 362:13 of work.
    Also nominated for the award this week were: Alyssa Grogan, G, Minnesota; Holly Snyder, D, Minnesota State; and Jessie Vetter, G, Wisconsin.

WCHA Rookie of the Week
Monique Lamoureux • Fr., F, University of Minnesota
Monique Lamoureux, who led the University of Minnesota with seven points in a two-game conference sweep over visiting Minnesota State University last weekend, is the WCHA Rookie of the Week.
    Last Friday (Nov. 21), Lamoureux scored a game-winning, shorthanded goal to lead the Golden Gophers to a 2-1 win over the Mavericks. Then last Saturday (Nov. 22), the freshman from Grand Forks, N.D. contributed on every Minnesota goal when she scored two goals and added four assists for six points in the 6-3 win over MSU. She was one point shy of the school record of seven set in 2000 by Nadine Muzerall.
    In the series, Lamoureux had a team-high 16 shots, and a plus/minus rating of +7. On the season, Lamoureux leads the team with 23 points and is tied for first on the team in goals (10) and assists (13). She also leads the team with a +20 rating.
