MADISON, Wis. - The battle for first place is shaping up between the last two league champions after Minnesota and Minnesota-Duluth earned road conference sweeps over the weekend.

Minnesota took two at Wisconsin, including an overtime win, to extend its unbeaten string to 10 games. The Gophers lead second-place Minnesota-Duluth by two points, though UMD has two conference games at hand.

The Bulldogs dominated St. Cloud State in two games over the weekend, pushing their own unbeaten streak to 12 games this season. UMD is unbeaten in its last 19 games, dating back to last season.

Bemidji State played host to Mercyhurst and skated to a tie and a loss against the Lakers. It was the first games for the Beavers following a 19-day layoff from competition.

Minnesota State also skated in non-conference action and had similar results. The Mavericks lost an overtime contest and skated to a tie with host Quinnipiac.

Two conference series take place this week as Ohio State visits Minnesota State and Bemidji State plays Wisconsin in Eau Claire, Wis., for the second time in three seasons.

In other action, a rematch of the inaugural NCAA Championship Game takes place when Minnesota-Duluth visits St. Lawrence for two games. Also, Connecticut visits St. Cloud State for two games, and Minnesota faces the U.S. National Team for games in Grand Forks, N.D., and Warroad, Minn.
