Duo garners recognition for performance in October

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Nov. 6, 2019 – The Women's Hockey Commissioners Association has named Wisconsin junior Daryl Watts its National Player of the Month and Wisconsin senior Kristen Campbell its National Goaltender of the Month for September/October.

Watts performed superbly on the ice for Wisconsin during the month of October, scoring in her first seven games as a Badger, which matched the school record for the longest goal streak to start a season. The Toronto, Ont., native led the NCAA during October in points with 28, assists with 19, and ranked second in the NCAA with nine goals. The 2018 Patty Kazmaier award winner once again showed her tremendous skills as she had an impressive 13 power-play points to help Wisconsin lead the country in power play percentage (.487). Watts tallied a point in nine of the Badgers' 10 games in October and led Wisconsin to a 10-0- 0 start, marking only the third time in school history the Badgers have enjoyed a 10-0- 0 start. The junior forward's best game as a Badger came against Penn State when she enjoyed a five-point night (1g-4a).

Campbell started her senior season strong with a 9-0-0 record in net for Wisconsin. Her nine wins led the NCAA in October while her three shutouts also paced the country. Campbell posted a .944 save percentage, which led the WCHA and ranked No. 8 in the NCAA while her 0.87 GAA was the second-best mark in the country. The Brandon, Man. native earned a pair of wins against No. 8/8 Ohio State, leading Wisconsin to a 10-0- 0 start, marking only the third time in school history the Badgers have started a season 10-0-0.

The national honor is Watts' first as a Badger and the fifth of her career while Campbell's honor is the first of her career. The duo of awards mark the first two honors for the WCHA in 2019-20.

The remaining NCA honoree for September/October was Boston College's Hannah Bilka who claimed Rookie of Month honors.
