Minnesota's Terry, St. Cloud State's Friend, Ohio State's Kepler Named WCHA Women's Players of the Week

WCHA Offensive Player of the Week
Kelly Terry - Senior, Forward

photo University of Minnesota forward Kelly Terry, a senior from Whitby, Ontario, has been named the WCHA Women's Offensive Player of the Week for November 6, 2013.

Terry led the Gophers with a career series-best seven points (3g, 4a) in her team's home-and-home sweep over Minnesota State last weekend. Terry finished the series with three goals on eight shots and a +4 plus/minus rating. Her points included a three-goal hat trick and three points on the power-play (1g, 2a). She also won 20 of 37 face-offs in the series.

Terry picked up two assists in Minnesota's 4-1 win last Friday (Nov. 1) at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis. On Saturday (Nov. 2) at All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Terry figured into five of the Gophers' seven goals in a 7-0 shutout. She recorded her second career hat trick and added two assists for a career game-high five points finished the game with three goals on six shots and a +3.

Terry is tied for third in the WCHA with 15 points (7g, 8a) in 10 games and is tied for second in the league with seven goals.

WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
Julie Friend - Junior, Goaltender

photo St. Cloud State University goaltender Julie Friend, a junior from Minnetonka, Minn., has been named the WCHA Women's Defensive Player of the Week for November 6, 2013.

Friend made 52 saves, including 30 in the third period, against host Minnesota Duluth last Friday (Nov. 1) and earned her first victory of the season for the Huskies, a 4-1 triumph. She blanked the Bulldogs for the first 43:41 of the contest before surrendering her only goal at 3:41 of the third period. She also held UMD scoreless on all four power-play chances in the game, as St. Cloud State prevailed despite being outshot 53-28.

Friend has started and played in seven games for the Huskies so far this season, and sports a 2.67 goals-against average, a .936 save percentage and one shutout over 404:16 of action along with a 1-4-2 record.

WCHA Rookie of the Week
Claudia Kepler - Freshman, Forward

photo Ohio State University forward Claudia Kepler, a freshman from Verona, Wis., has been named the WCHA Women's Rookie of the Week for November 6, 2013.

In game one of a conference road series at No. 2-ranked Wisconsin last weekend, Kepler got the Buckeyes off to a fast start last Saturday (Nov. 2) in Madison, scoring her first collegiate goal just :17 seconds into the contest to give OSU an early 1-0 advantage. But the Badgers rallied for a 4-1 victory.

Then in the series finale on Sunday (Nov. 3), Kepler did it again, except this time she found the back of the net with :28 seconds remaining in the first period, once again giving the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead only to see Wisconsin take a 3-2 victory.

In addition to her two goals scored, Kepler also put 10 shots on goal in the series, the most by a Ohio State player.

Playing in all seven of OSU's games as a rookie so far this season, Kepler has contributed three scoring points (2g, 1a).
