BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – October 5, 2017 – Following the success of its debut extended television package last season, the Women's League of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) is once again partnering with FOX Sports North for multi-game coverage during the 2017-18 campaign. The region's preeminent sports network will televise six regular season contests, plus the 2018 WCHA Final Faceoff championship game.
"We could not be happier or prouder to continue partnering with FOX Sports North to increase exposure both for the WCHA and the sport of women's hockey," said WCHA Vice President and Women's League Commissioner Katie Million. "The women in our league are amazing and play exceptionally high-quality hockey that needs to be televised broadly – especially in a year when many of their WCHA predecessors will skate in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. We are thrilled to showcase the student-athletes, coaches and member institutions of the WCHA, and we thank FOX Sports North for their continued commitment to growing women's hockey."
The 2017-18 package will feature five of the seven WCHA Women's League member institutions: The University of Minnesota, the University of Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State University, St. Cloud State University and the University of Wisconsin.
"We are proud to showcase the great tradition of WCHA hockey and excited to include these women's games as part of our 'College Hockey on FOX Sports North' package," said Mike Dimond, Senior Vice President and General Manager of FOX Sports North.
Highlighting the Women's College Hockey on FOX Sports North package is the first-ever outdoor women's collegiate game as part of Hockey Day Minnesota, as St. Cloud State will host Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, Jan. 20 as part of the network's 12th annual event. The 2017-18 package begins Friday, Dec. 8 when two-time defending WCHA regular season champion and 2017 national finalist Wisconsin travels to St. Cloud State. The regular season schedule also includes SCSU's return visit to Madison to face UW on Jan. 28 and a Feb. 3 matchup between the host Huskies and Minnesota, before wrapping up on the season's final weekend with a Gophers vs. Badgers, Border Battle contest (Feb. 16 in Madison); and, Minnesota Duluth at Minnesota State (Feb. 17).
Telecasts from St. Cloud will be produced by the award-winning crew of Husky Productions, while Minnesota State's home game is made possible in part by the partnership between Maverick Athletics and the renowned BLC Studios, a division of Bethany Lutheran College.
