More about Dave…
Are you, or any family, either UMN alumni or students, or otherwise connected?
I am a third-generation University of Minnesota alumnus, following my paternal grandparents and both my parents. I played 5 years in the Marching Band and 9 years (combined) in two of the pep bands (some of that occurring after I graduated). As an alumnus, I was on the Executive Council of the U of M Band Alumni Society, serving as President in 2008. I am currently a member of the Power Play Club -- the Gopher Women's Hockey boosters -- since joining in the mid-2000s, being elected to their Board of Directors in 2010, and elected Vice-President in 2015. Also, when the women's hockey program began play in 1997-1998, the captain was Julie (Otto) Greeley -- a high school classmate of mine.
I love Gopher women's hockey because: They are always near the top of the NCAA rankings and it's always a fun, entertaining atmosphere. I've been supporting them since game #1 back in 1997, and I wear my "Inaugural Season" cap at every game.
My favorite women's hockey memory is:
Alyssa Grogan's senior night appearance in the final 9.8 seconds against North Dakota in 2012, and Amanda Kessel's return in 2016. I also have to give an honorable mention to Emily West's penalty shot goal in the 2012 NCAA Championship Game vs. Wisconsin and her celebratory leap into the Gopher bench.
What I'm most looking forward to about the rest of the 2017-18 season is: Just continuing to cheer on the Gophers as we enter playoff time.
Describe WCHA hockey in one word or phrase: Strong.
