Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey squad ended its four-game winning streak Friday night after a 1-0 loss to sixth-ranked Minnesota.
The two teams battled back-and-forth in the first period, with MSU out shooting Minnesota, 9-6.
Both MSU and the Gophers entered the second period with a lot of intensity. The second was scoreless until Minnesota forward Sarah Erickson scored on a wrap-around goal at the 8:22 mark. Junior netminder Alli Altmann seemed to be in place for the save, but the puck found its way to the back of the net, sliding past Altmann's skate. Blueliner Kelly Seeler and forward Bethany Brausen earned helpers on the goal.
After a scoreless, hard fought third, the Gophers left the ice with win.
Altmann stopped 23 pucks for MSU, while the Gophers Noora Raty earned 27 saves.
Minnesota State outshot the Gophers, 27-24. MSU finished the contest 0-4 on the power play, while Minnesota went 0-3 with an extra attacker.
Minnesota State (6-6-1, 5-6-0-0 WCHA) and Minnesota (7-5-0, 4-5-0-0 WCHA) will face-off again tomorrow night at 3:07 p.m. at All Seasons Arena.
