Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team defeated the St. Cloud State University Huskies on Saturday, 4-2 at All Seasons Arena.

The win gave the Mavericks their first home series sweep since October 31-November 1, 2008 when they swept Bemidji State.

Freshman winger Tracy McCann netted the opening goal of the contest at the 7:56 mark of the first to put Minnesota State in front early, 1-0. The score came after an on-goal shot attempt from sophomore Emilia Anderson when McCann slapped the rebound past SCSU goaltender Taylor VanDenakk. Recording assists on the goal was Anderson and Lauren Zrust.

The Mavericks took at 2-0 lead 11:18 into the second period when senior Nina Tikkinen tallied her first goal of the season. Tikkinen took an up ice pass from sophomore forward Lauren Smith, cut in front of the net an lifted the puck top-shelf, over VanDenakk's right shoulder. Rogan also assisted on the goal.

McCann tallied her second goal of the game at the 17:52 mark of the second, giving MSU a 3-0 lead heading into the final period. Smith and Rogan both assisted on the goal.

The Huskies found the back of the net twice in the final period to cut the Mavericks lead to one. SCSU's first score came just :32 into the third when forward Molli Mott collected her first goal of the season. Haylea Schmid also scored her first goal of the season with the help from Mott to move the score to 3-2 at the 9:41 mark.

The Mavericks put the game away with their fourth goal of the contest at the 16:24 mark in the final period. Junior forward Emmi Leinonen recorded her third goal on the season, a power play tally, with help from Tikkinen and junior captain Ariel Mackley who earned helpers on the score.

The Huskies outshot the Mavericks in the game, 29-24. MSU finished 2-of-4 on power play chances, while SCSU went 0-for-5 in the game.

MSU goaltender Danielle Butters finished with 27 saves, while SCSU's VanDenakker recorded 20 saves. The Mavericks tied a season-high by scoring four goals for the third time this season.

The Mavericks next matchup is on the road as they travel to Columbus, Ohio to face the Buckeyes of Ohio State on Friday, November 12th at 7:07 p.m.
