COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's hockey team rallied to take a 3-2 lead late in the third period, but the Fighting Sioux battled back with two goals, including the gamewinner with nine seconds left in overtime to give No. 8 North Dakota the 4-3 victory Friday in the first game of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association series.

The Buckeyes fall to 14-13-2 overall and 8-13-2-2 in WCHA play, while North Dakota improves to 16-3-2 overall and 14-7-2-0 in conference action. The competitive game between the Buckeyes and Fighting Sioux was the third time this season the two teams went into overtime.

As time was ticking down in the extra period, the Fighting Sioux were able to keep the puck in the OSU zone following a faceoff. North Dakota's Alyssa Wiebe gained possession and found an open Monique Lamoureux-Kolls, who fired a shot five feet outside the circle in front of her bench for the winner.

After the majority of the opening period went scoreless, the Fighting Sioux were able to take the lead headed into the first intermission when Jocelyne Lamoureux gave UND a 1-0 lead when she fired a quick wrist shot from the right circle that was able to make it by Buckeye goalie Lisa Steffes at 19:40.

North Dakota kept the momentum early in the second with the Lamoureux sisters leading the way. Jocelyne Lamourex skated down the left side of the OSU zone and found Monique Lamoureux-Kolls for the goal from the right side 24 seconds into the period for the 2-0 advantage.

The Scarlet and Gray began their rally eight minutes later when junior forward Laura McIntosh beat two North Dakota defenders. The native of Waterloo, Ontario, then faked left in front of goalie Stephanie Ney before beating her from the right side for the Buckeye score at 8:41. Freshman forward Ally Tarr was credited with the assist.

In the third period, junior defenseman Kelly Wild tied the game at 2-2 after her shot from the far side near the blue line was deflected in front of the net for the unassisted goal at 3:18.

The score remained tied until a minute and a half remaining in regulation on a Buckeye power play. Senior defenseman Shannon Reilly found an opening in the middle of the UND defense and blasted a shot into the back left of the net to give Ohio State the 3-2 lead at 18:31. McIntosh earned the second assist after keeping the puck in the zone, while sophomore Minttu Tuominen claimed the first assist.

However, just 20 seconds Wiebe sent the game into overtime with her goal at 18:53 from the left side on a North Dakota offensive break.

Steffes finished with a total of 33 saves and moves to 14-13-2 this season.

Overall, Ohio State had a 42-37 lead in shots. Ohio State was 1-of-5 on the power play, while North Dakota was 0-for-5.

The Buckeyes and Sioux will conclude their series with a 4 p.m. game Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink.
