COLUMBUS, Ohio - Sophomore Ally Tarr tallied her first career hat trick to lead the Ohio State women's hockey team to a 5-3 win over Bemidji State Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink. A total of nine Buckeyes collected points with Laura McIntosh, Kelly Wild and Hokey Langan finishing with two points each.

With the win, Ohio State concludes its first weekend series of the year with a 1-0-1 overall mark and a 1-0-1-1 record in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Bemidji State falls to 1-1-2 overall and 0-1-1-0 in the conference.

Earning the start in net for the first time this season was sophomore Lisa Steffes, who finished with 28 saves. Bemidji State's Zuzana Tomcikova had 29 saves in the loss.

After skating to a scoreless tie in the first half, the Buckeyes struck first at 1:41 in the second to take a 1-0 lead. Freshman Kayla Sullivan scored her first collegiate goal after picking up a rebound on the right side of the net. Earning her first collegiate point was freshman Danielle Gagne who was credited with an assist along with Wild.

The Beavers responded with a power play goal at 4:17 when Marlee Wheelhouse found the back of the net with assists to Erika Wheelhouse and Montana Vichorek.

Tarr, from London, Ontario, scored twice halfway through the second to give the Buckeyes a 3-1 lead at the second intermission. After receiving a pass from McIntosh, she broke away from two defenders to send the puck over Tomcikova at 8:16 for her first goal of the day. Tarr scored again at 10:01 with a tap in from the left with assists to McIntosh and Langan.

The Buckeyes gained a 4-1 lead at 4:46 in the third as Tarr collected her third goal of the game. After taking a shot in the zone, Tarr picked up her own rebound to slip the puck past the BSU goalie. Assists went to Wild and Langan.

Bemidji State fought back midway through the third, collecting a pair of goals within three minutes to make the score 4-3 in favor of OSU. Sadie Lundquist tallied the second power play goal of the game for the Beavers at 10:18 with assists to Erika Wheelhouse and Vichorek. BSU's Tess Dusik cut the Buckeye lead to one at 13:06 after firing a shot in the crease. Erika Wheelhouse picked up her third assist of the game with the second assist going to Mackenzie Thurston.

The Beavers pulled Tomcikova at 18:51, but the extra skater wasn't enough for BSU as senior Natalie Spooner snuck a shot past a sliding defender into the empty net at 19:28. Assists went to Tina Hollowell and Paige Semenza.

Overall, Ohio State led in shots, 34-31. The Beavers were 2-of-3 on the power play and had a perfect 1-of-1 mark on the penalty kill.

Ohio State continues WCHA play with a series against St. Cloud State Oct. 14-15 at the OSU Ice Rink. Games begin 7 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday.
