GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of North Dakota women's hockey team snapped the St. Cloud State Huskies 3-game win streak in Friday night's contest by a score of 10-0.
Junior Jorid Dagfinrud (Sarpsborg, Norway) backstopped UND to her third shutout of the season. Monique Lamoureux-Kolls (Grand Forks, N.D.) had a hat trick and two assists, Jocelyne Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) and Alyssa Wiebe (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) had one goal and two assists.
Mary Loken (Roseau, Minn.), Michelle Karvinen (Rodovre, Denmark), Andrea Dalen (Honefoss, Norway) and Margot Miller (West Bloomfield, Mich.) all added multipoint games.
St.Cloud State came out firing as they held UND without a shot until midway through the first period, but they were unable to solve Dagfinrud who concluded the game with 16 saves. She improves to 5-2-1 on the year.
UND took advantage of momentum in tonight's rout, scoring three times on its next shift, within one minute after a previous goal.
Lamoureux-Kolls scored the opening goal on UND's second shot of the game at 11:32 in the first period on the power-play. Seconds later, Karvinen scored North Dakota's second goal of the game on just their third shot. Lamouruex would add another even strength goal to put UND up 3-0 heading into the second period.
The Huskies outshot UND 10-6 in the opening frame but UND would hold SCSU to only four shots in the second period and two in the third, outshooting them by a combined mark of 24-6.
Lamoureux-Kolls scored the second goal of her hat-trick performance at the 4:07 mark in the second period. Thirteen seconds later, UND defensemen Kayla Berg (Fargo, N.D.) scored her second goal of the season to give UND a 5-goal lead and chase SCSU netminder Julie Friend from the game.
North Dakota's Allison Parizek (Minot, N.D.) and Wiebe closed out the second period scoring for a 7-0 advantage.
Lamoureux-Kolls, Dalen and Lamoureux closed out the game's scoring in the third period scoring.
Tayler VanDenakker finished the game for SCSU making 17 saves whle allowing five goals.
With the win, North Dakota extends its winning streak to seven games (eight game unbeaten streak) against the Huskies.
North Dakota was also dominant in faceoffs, winning 41-of-65 draws. Lamoureux was a perfect 16-0.
The Sioux will go for the series sweep tomorrow evening at the Ralph Engelstad Arena with an opening faceoff at 7;07 p.m.
